The ViewLondon Review

A London institution for over twenty years, Smollensky’s is a veritable feast of cocktails and modern American dishes set in a stylish and spacious venue on the Strand.

The Venue
Located just south of busy Covent Garden, Smollensky’s on the Strand is in the middle of the West End action and is buzzing with lunchtime and after-work drinkers, theatre-goers and late evening diners. There's plenty of table seating but you can also choose to reserve an area in the restaurant or in the bar upstairs if you're in a larger group.

The Atmosphere
The atmosphere is lively and relaxed, with the bar area tending to be quite busy and the dining area still able to offer some intimacy. Staff are excellent; the service is fast and attentive, and always with a smile. With regular live entertainment and wine tasting sessions, as well as pre-theatre menus and their famous happy hour with reduced-price cocktails, this is always a good place to meet friends or host your own little party.

The Food
The menu offers a good range of modern American dishes and caters well for meat lovers and vegetarians alike. The food might not wow you but portions are large and it's certainly good value for money if you can take advantage of one of their special offers, such as the 2-course set menu for £12. The pan-seared scallops starter (£8 on the a la carte menu) is a delicate dish with crispy pancetta to add just that extra bit of flavour and depth. Among their main courses, the surf and turf (£26) is made up of a juicy rib-eye steak and three delicious, plump and fresh king prawns. Do not leave without trying their home made desserts, the peanut butter cheesecake is their signature dish and is a decadent, rich and delicious delight.

The Drink
In one word... cocktails. Smollensky’s house cocktails are some of the best you can find in the West End. They're made with premium quality spirits and offer unbelievably good value for money, especially during happy hour. Their best seller, the Italian Job, is a perfect mix of Stolichnaya vodka, strawberries and cranberry juice. It's fruity and refreshing, but with just the right amount of kick from the vodka.

The Last Word
Smollensky’s on The Strand constantly updates what's on offer to better suit its varied range of customers. It's a trendy venue that isn't snobby or imposing, and offers a great spot in which to start your night out. And two for one cocktails always make the night even better.
