The ViewLondon Review
It’s all in the name, so you should know what to expect from this sexy venue stuffed full of sofas, made slightly bizarre by a love of all aspects of funk - from music to art.The VenueRagged pillows, carpets and low tables are pretty much the only pieces of furniture that are not sofas at Sofa So Bar. You’ll never be left wanting a seat with the sofas available en masse, mostly beaten, following the fashionable boho-chic trend. At the back though, beside massive bean bag sofas, there are also two extra large booths easily able to accommodate groups. The sultry atmosphere is emphasised by the large art pieces hanging from the wall, including funky nudes, perfect for this type of place. The fireplace is the last cosy touch.
Upstairs at Sofa So Bar, is a room available for private hire and boasts a second bar basically decorated in cream and white: here, though, you will sit on chairs.
The AtmosphereThe couches here inspire a chatty lounge atmosphere: women seem to be the majority and the average age is 25-35. Most regulars are locals coming out of Fulham Broadway tube and stopping at this last bar before heading into the quiet residential area for a relaxed drink. On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays Sofa So Bar provides an extra kick - a DJ plays funky house or classic party anthems.
The FoodThe food is a mix of pub classics and European influences appearing as a quick trip from Italy to Spain via France. The bar menu, quite short but serving the purpose, comprises classic sandwiches (£5-£6) and mains (£4.50-£13) including a flavoursome chicken, chorizo, roasted pepper and onion quesadilla.
The DrinkThe descriptive wine list at Sofa So Bar includes the interesting Portuguese Santo Isidro De Pegoes in red and white. Other appealing bottles are the Chablis Jean Moreau and the New Zealander Merlot Le Mercure. Glasses are an appropriate £4-£5.40 and bottles are as fairly cheap at £12.50-£18.
Within the beers, the star is the French Kasteel Cru, brewed with Champagne yeast and relying on a rising group of devoted followers. Other options are Green King IPA chilled, Sol, and Pear Bulmers. The prices here are a bit steep though, at £3.20-£3.50 for a pint. Some shots are also available.
The Last WordMaybe too suggestive for a date, Sofa So Bar is ideal for a truly comfortable night out and it is especially recommended to all-girl parties. Some of the sofas look like beds, making this the closest you will ever get to a public pyjama party!
