I really loved this particularly peculiar pub, they have 10 lagers (from all round the world) and 6 bitters, on top of that there's a very extensive list of wine and spirits for the customer to choose, the staff members seem to do their best to serve as fast as possible because they're just so busy, and there's normally as much people as they can fit behind the bar. Overall the service is alright, they play really good music and the food not only smells good but tastes amazing. This used not to be a good pub a few years ago, but since the new manager took over 2.5 years ago everything has changed.
The fact that the pub has 2 floors gives you a choice, you can either sit downstairs, relaxing and more private (if you want even more privacy, they have booths downstairs, just awesome :D)
or if you're looking for an agitated night out you can just stay upstairs where the crowd normally is, the music is always great and always perfect for every occasion.
I really love this pub and always go there for a few drinks :D
lovely pub but the food sucks and the service is truly dreadful. I went there recently for an early lunch (12noon) as had my dad and brothers staying with me. my younger brothers are vegetarian and quite picky, so I asked the guy behind the bar if he could do just egg and chips, instead of the ham, egg and chips on the menu. Not a difficult request, I didn't think. when the food finally came 50 mins later, though the chips were great, the eggs were like rubber (what a waste of 'organic, free range' eggs). it was like they'd actually been cooking for 50 mins. even I can cook an egg! by this point though, our stomach's were eating themselves so we ate them anyway. when it came to paying, I was appalled to find that the charge of £7.50 for ham, egg and chips, could not be reduced, despite the ham being the most expensive part! a side of chips was £2.50 which meant the eggs were five pounds! i asked to speak to the manager who, though I could see him at the other side of the bar, said he was 'too busy' to speak to me.
I don't normally write on these things, but felt so appalled at paying £22.50 for three pub lunches that were late, disgusting and served with such a stinking attitude. don't go here if you want to eat. lovely pub though.
Southwark Tavern is in a truly splendid building. It's old, but has been renovated to give it more of a trendy, loungey atmosphere. The Southwark Tavern has a downstairs with lots of little private areas so you can hide away for those more intimate moments. They also offer Leffe Belgian beer on tap.
