The ViewLondon Review
Not taking the evening seriously is key to enjoying Strawberry Moons. And have a few drinks.
The Venue
Strawberry Moons spans two floors and is the kind of cheesy venue that keeps Central London clubbers happy. The prominent main dance floor flashes beside garish purple hued walls and a pole promises a few teasing acts. The club is well sized with plenty of space to dance and move around the bar; however, at the weekend you’ll be hard pushed to see through the crush of bodies as the large space suddenly feels distinctly small.
An outside patio is a benefit of this off-road club, a rare expanse in the heart of London.
The Atmosphere
Strawberry Moons is definitely one for the girls and you’ll find large packs of them, many of them out-of-towners heading into the West End for the night, singing and shouting along to the music. It may not be elegant but after a few drinks it’s certainly fun. This is the kind of place where hen parties thrive. The staff are incredibly polite and attentive, which is a refreshing change for this area of London.
The Music
You can expect cheesy tunes and dance ‘classics’ at Strawberry Moons. Fridays is their pop night and you will hear more than enough Britney, Christina and Robbie to last a lifetime. Expect to sing along, you just can’t help yourself.
The Food
The all day tapas menu (£2.50-£5) includes dishes like patatas bravas, baby back ribs, sauteed chorizo, Serrano ham bruschetta and spicy fishcakes. It’s not the best tapas in London by any means but for the price the quality is surprisingly good.
The Drink
The prices are low here. A dozen or so bottles of wine don’t exceed £17.50 per bottle and cocktails are £5.57-£6.20 or £15.50 per jug. Champagne cocktails are a bargain at £6 and only the shooters seem slightly pricey at £4.70-£6.25. If you arrive between 5pm and 8pm then the prices are even lower, shrinking down to £4 for cocktails and £2.50 for a bottle of Staropramen.
The Last Word
Strawberry Moons is trying to clean up its act and become a more refined affair, but the debauchery lingers because that’s why people are drawn to this place. If you’re looking to let loose and party but are tired of pretentious clubs then this could be the answer.
