Used to be a regular and loved this Purple pub - a fave with all the locals in the week - taken over by tourists on sat/sun - BUT they have refurbed and its truly awful.Exterior is MUSTARD colour and a real eyesore - now they've started on the inside and I dread to know what the outcome of that will be.Me and my friends will not go there anymore - I loved the Secret Garden - what a shame and a total travesty.Prince Albert may well benefit. Why appeal to the tourists and alienate the locals/regulars - weird business model.
Really great pub - food is good and the staff are really friendly. I even saw one of them go to get the A-Z to show some French customers where to go (and told them in French too!).
They seem very knowledgeable about the beers and wine and the burgers are the best!
The pub has enjoyed new management direction of late and is really fufilling its potential.
The staff are friendly and make you feel at home.
The food is excellent value for money and this pub is now right up there with the best in Notting Hill.
A huge turn around and full credit to the management and bar team.
Food was good, freshly cooked and tasty - friendly staff and quick service.
Absolutely love it! Mulled wine during Christmas period was just amazing! They make it with cranberry juice:)))
And I've been there couple of days ago again, this time I've tried Fruli - fruit beer...every woman's fantasy beer...gonna keep coming back only for it:) Puddings very delicious and friendly staff; plus reasonable prices-what could be better?
I totally agree with the other comments about Sun in Splendour, the staff at this pub were unbelievable rude - in a way I haven't experienced in the UK for quite some time if not ever. They tried to tell me I got my food order wrong and then refused to serve it to me OR give me a refund saying it was my own fault. The most astonishing thing was how they were screaming at other customers accross the pub! The guys at Sun in Splendour definitely need to learn something about hospitality or they need to go open a pub somewhere much less classy than Notting Hill.
As a regular at the Sun In Splendour I have noticed that since changing management recently, the whole pub looks better and the staff are nicer. Give it time. I feel the Sun In Splendour will become a good pub in the area with the resources available.
The bar staff at Sun in Splendour were quite aggresive when it came to closing time. Don't expect to get treated like that in Notting Hill.
Unfortunately have to agree with the above review. We found the young girl who appeared to be the bar manager exceptionally rude.
A pub full of tourists. High prices, crap beer and no atmosphere. Don't bother.
