The ViewLondon Review
Unlike its namesake, Sun remains a regular hotspot for hip and trendy Claphamites and definitely shines brightly during the summer months. The VenueLight, bright and airy, the high ceilings and large windows here act as a great canvas for the juxtaposing ambiences that the different rooms of Sun offer. Downstairs, the large rectangular bar centralises as the heart of this large venue, where less is more on the furniture front to allow the heaving crowds to fill its every crevice on busy weekend nights. Upstairs, the opposite is supplied with sizeable comfy sofas and an allotment of unmatched singlets of furniture, providing a rather academic feel resembling a large library.
Of course, famous for its large beer garden, this is a favourite choice for smokers who enjoy the feeling of freedom and relaxation this provides in comparison to the usual scurrying out for a quick drag on the pavement.
The AtmosphereThis multifaceted venue caters for a wide selection of people and is well equipped to deal with a large diverse crowd, providing a social hub on the ground floor, a relaxed haven on the second and a smokers retreat with it’s vast outdoor beer garden. The bar staff are friendly and seem to be enjoying themselves with the main emphasis and vibe of the whole place being fun.
The FoodSun offers a menu of reasonably priced regular pub grub and would probably be best enjoyed during Lunchtime or on a weeknight, as weekends are far too busy.
The DrinkSun doesn’t really exceed itself with its drink choice, offering the typical selection of pub drinks. The slow service and high prices are definitely not the reason for its popularity.
The Last WordOverpriced drinks and slow service are the only down points Sun has. It is, nonetheless, a great place for trendy Claphamites to be seen; either enjoying the buzz of the cosmopolitan vibe or whiling away the evening with intellectual conversation.
