Don't go there - bar staff over charged, and when disputed, the barmaids friend, who was drinking there, knocked over all our drink (£100 worth) and when we spoke the manager, she was rude condescending and arrogant. If they are happy with that level of customer service then so be it. But honestly the worst customer service. They think just because the place has good reviews they can get away with it, but we used to be regulars - no more.
I've been attracted to this place on a few occasions because of its large outdoor area and cosy interior. But I have left disappointed every time by the unfriendly staff who are disinterested and careless. Every wait at the bar is a long one and you stand getting elbowed and talked at by the boring crowd. Won't be returning!
I've never understood why Sun is always so busy. I guess its because it's plain, dull, busy and grubby, which fits in with Claphamites' image of being 'up and coming'. I don't like it, but it just about sums up what to expect in skanky Clapham.
In two minds about the Sun - in summer it's wonderful to sit outside BUT it obviously gets remarkably busy due to its proximity to the common - not getting a seat and there not being any standing space is a common occurrence (although I fully understand that this isn't the pub's fault).
In winter I find the indoors area a bit vacuous - don't know why but the atmosphere is a weird one, as if you're in a bank or something!
But with drunk people...The sharing platters are nice though and the staff are really friendly so it's still on my summer's day list of pubs to go to for an afternoon drink.
This pub is now under new ownership. Apparently the new landlord wants to get rid of the open mic night on Mondays, so he's not a supporter of live music.
The decor is okay, but when I asked for half a lager the barman snarled back "just a half?" as if I'd just blown farts in his face.
Uninspiring
The Sun is a really great little pub just off the high street with a good atmosphere and excellent garden. I have been there on a chilled out summers afternoon as well as a lively New Years Eve and both times it has been just what I have been looking for. The Sun is a good place to go if you are looking for a friendly pub with a lively atmosphere.
I've had more than one drunken night at the Sun. It is a good pub to go and get absolutely trashed with friendly punters and staff. The Sun gets very crowded, especially on a hot summers night. I rate this place, it is a good time pub.
