i am so glad to see the place is still going strong i was working in london in 2003/4 and this was my local fantastic beer and food what more can you say
I love this place, but I have to say that the staff could go a little way towards being more efficient...and friendly! Really depends on the night that you go in I guess, but I've had some pretty shocking service there over the past two years.
Oh well, I still go back for more because I like the feel of the place and being on my street I can't beat it for convenience.
Set back from usual hustle and bustle of Holloway Road, The Swimmer is without a doubt the best pub in the whole of Holloway. The atmosphere is casual with a healthy number of loyal regulars without being intimidating. The pub quiz is one of the highlights of the week (each and every Monday).
The food is amazing with a large selection for all gastro pub lovers and caters to all tastes including veggies. There is a nice and compact outdoor seating area that is covered in the winter and open in the summer. The Swimmer should not be missed!
Swimmer at the Grafton Arms is a really great pub. The staff are totally friendly (except Tom of course) and you could not ask to meet a friendlier and more charming bloke than the guvner, Shane.
Beer is European generally (excluding the bitter & guinness) so you'll have no luck finding a Stella or Fosters or Carling. If Hoegaarden or Erdinger or Litovel or one of dozens of other obscure brands is more your bag, you're in luck. There's also a huge wine selection that is sourced from a vintner as opposed to just being whatever the brewery sends out.
I don't normally eat when I'm drinking so can't really comment on the food, but no-one I know has ever complained about it. I also know the (Belgian) chef and know the standards he sets himself, so even if it isn't to your taste, you can be sure that the food is made from fresh, high quality, ingredients on the premises and that unlike some of London's kitchens hygiene is something that is taken seriously. In my opinion, Swimmer at the Grafton Arms is one of the best pubs in Holloway.
