I went for a meal last night and always want to try here but never had chance.. I been treated very welcome even the waiter told us that food won't come straight away because as they cook thats how it comes. Cocktails were very nice..I definitely come back again and again. Nice to find a proper Mexican place after travelling around Mexico this is very close of what my girlfriend and I been trying over there. Cheers tacuba

Ate there last night using a Groupon, and it was nice. The atmosphere was great, really buzzy for a Thursday night, staff were chatty and attentive and cocktails were very tasty and fresh. The food was good, but the portions were just too small. The starters were the size of bar snacks, and then mains didn't fill you up. I think the boys grabbed a burger on the way home! Which makes the food pretty expensive for the little you get. Even though the 'Huarache de carne y choriqueso' was delicious! Beers weren't cheap either. Be prepared for your food to just come out when it is ready, leaving your friends watch you eat while they wait for theirs.
Overall, fun but overpriced.

Don't listen to any of the positive reviews on here - I can only assume they are fake and written by the staff! This was one of the worst eating out experiences I have ever had. My friends and I are not particularly fussy about food and great timings, especially on a Saturday night when there are strong tequila cocktails to keep us occupied, but we were SHOCKED by the service and standard of food in this place. The staff were inattentive, rude and the food was abysmal! I can't stress how disappointed and hacked off we were especially as my friend was only in town for the weekend, and I wanted to show her how lovely Balham is for eating and drinking out. PLEASE JUST TRUST THIS REVIEW AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!

We've been here yesterday with the Groupon voucher. Total waste of money. Food was terrible; poor quality ingredients, tastlesss, cold and nowhere near traditional cuisine. To top it up we've been charged £4.50 as service charge for two soft drinks. I would be more devastated if I pay the full price for the crap food. Not recommending at all.

I went to Tacuba on Saturday night because I've been told very good things about the place and I was delighted with the Tacos Cochinita and off course with the whole meal that me and my friends had. Great atmosphere and very good quality. Welldone Guys!!! I recommend to all my friends.. Marco

If I could give this place 'no stars', I would. Terrible service, bad tasteless food, and hugely over priced. Just walked out and would suggest anyone in there to do the same. Never felt more ripped off and live just round the corner. Minus stars. Worst mexican ever. Seriously.

I have been to Tacuba twice now. It looks cute and cuddly, but the food is frankly terrible (as someone who knows Mexican quite well, I feel qualified to say this), the service was surly and rude in French-like proportions. The drinks were fine, but at over £7 each pretty far from anything considered good value in this area.

On top of all that the service charge was an ambitious 12.5%, food or no food. Consider the downstairs function room for a small party perhaps, but as for the rest, forget it. Tacuba need to replace their staff (unlikely, as this is apparently a ‘family run’ business) and the chef (unlikely for the same reasons) and seriously re-consider their prices before I’d ever go back.

Dismal. Disappointing. Avoid.

(If you're local, make the effort to visit Chilango, Taqueria or Wahaca, all are SO SO SO much better).

We visited this place for a meal on a Thursday night with some friends, and were sadly very disappointed with both the quality of the food and the atmosphere. The music in the place is so loud that you can't easily have a conversation with the person sitting next to you. The point was proven when I asked the waitress if she could turn it down a bit and she couldn't even hear what I was asking. Needless to say she ignored our requests anyway. The food was pretty average and as we were halfway through our starters the main came out, hence after sending it back it came out Luke warm when we were actually ready for it! Tables are tiny and can't really accommodate food and drinks and the stools are extremely uncomfortable. We felt we were massively overcharged for drinks. Not a great experience overall.

Ordered a delivery. I won't again. To say the food was bland implies that it had some taste, which it didn't. This was a hugely over-priced disappointment. A complete waste of money.

This restaurant is great for cocktails....just don't eat there! We had the char-grilled steak with smoky bacon, chilli and vegetables. Sounded great, so was not expecting a measly portion of limp slices of steak with soggy bacon and greasy vegetable. The side order of corn chips were straight from a bag of Phileas Fogg. All in all, a lively enough atmosphere, but the food is really for those who have alcohol-fuelled hunger or have lost their tastebuds.

Friendly place with a good vibe and wicked margaritas. Food seemed a bit bit hit and miss but i think i got lucky as my burrito was just what the doctor ordered (apparently they do home delivery as well)
All in all a pleasant experience and somewhere i would visit again.

Love this place. The Mexican street food is really authentic and delicious, the cocktail selection is fantastic! It's not a large bar and can be crowded on a Saturday night but has such a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Been here to eat and I loved it so much had my 30th birthday party which Jorge the owner accommodated for us perfectly. All my friends loved it too. Oh and happy hour is great- two for one cocktails!

Not sure what happened as I left a review on here last month. I had a very bad experience at Tacuba in November. The food was dreadful and definitely not fresh. It was tasteless and the meat was like it came of a tin. Awful, awful food and it made me feel very nauseas. It was very disappointing that we were not once asked if the food was alright, waiters friendly but didn't seem to want to know if the food was ok. I complained about the standard of the food but just got offered a free drink when we returned. I wont be returning any time soon to claim it! Dreadful.

Absolutely agree - food is bland. I complained about the food, they took the meal away and told me that they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I'd go back, but only for drinks.

We've just come home from a really bad experience at Tacuba. The place has a really nice vibe and the drinks were great, but the food was atrocious. Firstly it took over 45 minutes for our order to arrive. I should have known it was a bad idea when I noticed nobody else was eating. Like the previous review, I'm pretty sure the flour tortillas had been microwaved, as they were rubbery and impossible to bite through. Every dish on the veggie platter was identical and the quesadilla was frankly little more than a lukewarm sandwich wrap you find in the supermarket with a thick wedge of semi-molten English cheddar. All I gained from the experience was indigestion.

Don't know where the other reviewer was eating, this place is awesome! Authentic mex street food (none of the tex mex crap.) Food tastes fresh, home made and for the quality, is good value. Cocktails are out of this world and the staff are all uber cool. Is THE place to be on a friday night, funky music, really unique little place.

I went to Tacuba expecting a cheap and cheerful experience. To start with we were told that all three draught beer taps were 'broken' and instead pointed towards the more expensive bottled beers and cocktails.

When the food arrived it was lukewarm, microwaved and would not have looked out of place in a box of frozen food from Iceland. I have eaten in most Balham food outlets, from drunken kebabs to excellent independant resaurants and can honestly say this is the worst food in Balham. I left wishing I had gone to McDonalds.

All in all we felt a bit ripped off, which is a shame, because the place itself is quite funky. The people drinking cocktails seemed happy enough, but if the attitudes to the cocktails are the same as those applied to the food and beers, then I can only imagine how watered down they must be.

Disappointing.
