friends can not believe what I saw in Tamarai and Sitaaray they are same company ,I wonder if it still exists in London and inspection of hygiene. I believe most of the restaurants may have mice. But not in full restaurant with people having dinner. my god can not believe and it was not one but several mice. the place is dark but if you look closely you can see some of them running the corners and under the table ... And it was me who invited my friends to go to dinner and celebrate the years of great friend ... very disgusting. but never said anything to my friends in that night. I've never seen so stupid managers in my life. no experience in dealing with customers. believe me so nasty and the place smells bad ... for the rest of the staff working don't blame because they are controlled by those two managers look like half a man. a very horrible place to go ... if you want to go somewhere with good friends and girlfriend lose your time looking for good places and not bad environment full of stress do not destroy your night there is a lot of nice place in London to go...

Any place i go to, i don't care too much for the main menu but it has to be full of desserts and good wine. And Tamarai fits the bill like no other. In love with the fruit satay sticks. My favorite wine Chardonnay to accompany my sweet tooth made my visit worthwhile...such a pleasure!

Pan-asian for me certainly means Tamarai, the place has everything- Indian, Chinese, Thai. You name it you got it! Loved the food, simply amazing! Chicken spring rolls and Indian rice cake are too good, I am a big fan of their cocktail list. A little expensive for my liking but nonetheless if one can afford good taste, then why not! I am coming back with family the next time, not to miss.

My friends and I went out for a well-earned girls night out. The food was great, the atmosphere was second to none and the music was fab. We danced what felt like all night, the DJ kept the tempo going and the waitress kept the drinks coming. There aren't many places that you can stay all night and feel completely entertained - cocktails, dinner, dancing and live music. Amazing night that will be hard to top.

One good thing was the food although my local Thai restaurant is just as good in that respect. Our party of 8 arrived on time and were told to wait at the bar and no one approached us until after half an hour when we were finally seated. Every time I asked if they knew how long it was going to be I got told it would be ready in a minute and brushed off. Having checked the website and seen bad reviews I saw that they have a discretionary 12.5% charge and on the main dinner menu. When our waitress came over she gave us the set menu which surprised me as on their website this says it is not available at the time we were there. Before we got the bill I asked the waitress to not not add any charges and we would sort her out a cash tip as she had been great. She said we had to pay so I spoke with the manager. He basically said "are you going to pay it or not" and I said no but I wanted to give the tip to the waitress who deserved it. We were then approached by the bouncers after paying the bill to leave. My friend asked them why they were doing this and they couldn't even tell us! So it's obvious because we didn't pay the charge. If the mgr even tries to say they offer another menu as a response please note only when I asked to see it as I had seen the website so knew this. Otherwise we would have just had the set menus and been none the wiser, no alternative was offered. Rude managers, left waiting, would have got more money out of us but chose to eject us over 12.5 % which I would have happily given to the waitress which we did. I highly recommend Thai silk in Greenwich lovely service, good food, better value for money and exactly the same restaurant club format. Avoid this place. And this review is accurate!

The above two 'reviews' have been posted by the same party. This party was aggressive towards staff the moment they arrived at the restaurant. They were served a great value £15 for 3 courses menu and enjoyed their evening. They again became aggressive when the bill was presented to them. Because Tamarai converts to a club after the restaurant, we are obliged to evict aggressive patrons to protect staff and other patrons.

Thank you

This is really a "no star" rating restaurant -unfortunately I cannot remove the last star. My husband and I went to Tamarai because we had a special offer with bookatable it was £30 (which we paid in advance)a person for 3 courses. After reading the restaurant website reviews it seemed this was a very good deal. Once arriving at the restaurant the staff were unsure which menu to give us so this is the one they offered us:first couse 'spring roll'main course 'thai Chicken Curry'dessert 'sorbet'we were shocked as we thought we should have at least 3 different choices on a restricted menu. So we queried this. In vain they said this was the menu. Bitterly dissapointed we left the restaurant as we knew we could do better else where although we had already paid for the dinner. Tamarai missed a trick here as we were about to order a bottle of champagne plus some cocktails. So they would have had additional money from us on that night. I was also surprised as the restaurant was fairly empty. With this in mind I would advise anyone not to go for any offers via another website as there appears to be communication problem between them and the restaurant. As for going there normally it would not appeal to me. It is very dark you cannot read the menu. And the staff are unhelpful. Best give it a miss unless you are very drunk before going so you miss those finer details! From a very disappointed diner.

This review does not state facts. This guest had paid £20 for 3 courses menu through bookatable (not £30). Tamarai offered a limited set menu at this price. The menu offers a choice of two starters, two mains and two desserts and not what the guest has written. This menu was available for guests to see before they made this booking. We have had hundreds of guests who appreciated the fantastic value and 3 courses of great food that was offered under this heavily discounted deal. We understand if someone does not like a particular set menu even though they booked for a deal after seeing the menu. So we asked bookatable to refund this guest's deposit as they did not want to have this set menu. The deposit was immediately refunded. The management spoke with this guest and explained all of the above and the fact that at this price we were offering great value that was appreciated by others who booked under this offer.

Thank you

Tamarai

It always amazes me the quality of drinks these guys make under such pressure, with such an extensive menu. My group of friends and I go quite a lot and we always have a good night - there is always a great atmosphere, the bar team clearly having a good time! They seem pretty reasonable given the quality and in comparison to other less enjoyable, pretentious venues I've been to! The music is always faboulous and the food is damn good.Looking forward to enjoying some more summer evenings enjoying a cocktail or two!

It was my 25th birthday and I booked the much talked about lotus lounge for a private get together with my close friends. We were 26 of us and everything at tamarai was beyond expectations. The music was just amazing with the DJ playing my favourite music as per request.. the food was awesome and my friends were all praise about my party. The pan-Asian food, cocktails and the elaborate wine-list, everything decided as per my wish , this was just the perfect personalised birthday party i could have and best part that it was all worth the price i payed. So im sure many more parties to come at this happening place. Definitely recommend tamarai to everyone.!!

I have never felt like a restaurant did not value our custom. We had 17 people for a birthday and were made to pay up front - including 12.5% service charge!

The food was massively overpriced for what quantity and quality. £39 per person for food on the whole you would get better at your local thai restaurant. Some dishes were ok but the fish was unidentifiable. Most disappointing.

The staff were the least interested and welcoming of any I've seen. The manager was rude and aggressive when complaints were made and denied the service was poor and the food poor value for money. He would not listen to any of our complaints.

A sparkler was brought out with dessert. Unfortunately it had gone out before a photo could be taken with the birthday girl. We asked i they could bring out another. The manager said he would for £3.50. Considering we had spent over £600 excluding the vastly overpriced drinks this was entirely unacceptable.

To add insult to injury, a waiter spilt boiling hot curry on one of the girls arms.

Not an experience any of us will be repeating.

The issues stated in this 'review' are completely incorrect. This guest called Tamarai and asked for money to be paid back for food and drinks consumed a day before. There were no complaints from this party when they dined. The guest threatened that negative reviews will be posted if money was not 'refunded' to them. They have posted two false negative reviews on this website!!

Thank you.

Went here for a friend's birthday for a meal followed by a night out in the club. I have to say the whole night was dreadful from start to finish. Myself and a few others arrived on time and were shown to our table where we waited for the rest of the party to arrive. During the time we sat there (which was about 45 minutes as the rest of the party was stuck in traffic) we were not approached by any member of staff and were left to get our own drinks from the bar. At first we thought this might be be because the whole party wasn't there and we didn't think a lot about it. However when the rest of the party arrived and we ordered our set menu which had been decided with the restaurant 3 days in advance we were told we had to pay up front for the food. We thought this a little unorthodox but paid only to find they had added a mandatory 12.5% service charge. As we had so far received absolutely no service we questioned this and were told we had to pay it, so we did. Then we tried to order some drinks for the table from the waitress and were told we still had to go to the bar ourselves to get drinks. I am left wondering why we had to pay 12.5% for someone to do literally nothing but carry food to the table, they didn't even have to take our order as it was ordered by phone days in advance! With regard to the food it was average at best, and the portions were not substantial, I left the table hungry. As part of our set menu we had a 'crispy fish' dish, the only thing I can say about this dish is unless you want to pay a fair amount of money for something that tastes exactly like a fish finger don't order it. Our problems didn't end with the meal either but I don't have room to write any more. Overall I would say that I have absolutely no desire to visit Tamarai ever again, even if my best friend said they wanted to get married there I wouldn't go back!

Dear Tamari

I'm afraid you are mixing me up with someone else. I did not call your establishment the next day to ask for money back for food that we had already eaten and we did express our discontent at length during our visit.

Additionally I have only reviewed once on this website so I'm not sure how I can have made 2 reviews with false accusations. I also question how you would be able to remember the details of a party that ate at your restaurant almost 10 months ago on which to found your accusations (which incidentally are false). Frankly I think the fact that you have only bothered to reply to a negative review 10 months later speaks volumes about your customer service, however I am not surprised.

Went Saturday 27th November 2010 for my friend's birthday and the service was absolutely terrible. We were a group of 10, they made us pay before we ate our food and a the service charge even though we hadn't received any service, as we were apparently a 'large' group. Even though the table behind us also a table of 10, did not pay until the end of there meal. They did not clear the table and tried to serve desserts (main meal plates and cutlery were left on the table). We waited more than 45 minutes to receive our food... the table behind us arrived and were seated after us and ordered after us but received their food before us.
When we spoke to the Manager he was rude and unapologetic, we were told, to leave as they needed the table and the restaurant was becoming busy.

Avoid Tamarai at all costs!

Pan Asian funky bliss!!

Tamarai is very cool, I love the underground, blacked-out feel to the atmosphere with colourful lights scattered around the wall!

The food is so good, seriously good! If you like your Asian noodles, stir-fries you won't find better in London. I spent a bit of time in Asian a few years ago backpacking and love the food so to be able to visit a place in London that reminds my mouth and belly of my trip is great!

I really recommend trying Tamarai - you'll be giving up you usual Chinese, Asian restaurants in a flash!

I was in Tamarai over the weekend and I have to say a huge thank you to the staff. The staff were so friendly and made us feel very welcome.

Our orders were taken and the food arrived all at a good pace. We unfortunately got a few wrong dishes but the staff were very obliging at correcting this. We were also given a free round of shots at the end of our dinner to make up for the confusion.

We ended up spending the rest of the night in the cocktail bar and nightclub. It was great, the music was upbeat and the staff were very attentive, ensuring we were having a good time.

This is definitely a central venue worth checking out - the prices are average for the area but the service definitely out-weighs other nightclubs and bars.

Went to Tamarai this weekend. Really impressed - we didn't have to queue for hours and it was busy inside (well-done door staff!). They had stopped serving food when we arrived but the diners that were still seated all looked very happy (Will have to give it a go next time!). The cocktails were made really well by a really friendly barmaid. The music wouldn't be my first choice - r&b and commercial but it brought in a friendly crowd and we had a lot of fun. I would recommend it to groups who are looking to have a laugh in Cenral London.

I went into Tamarai last weekend for a hen-do and would just like to thank all the staff for attending and entertaining us!! It makes such a difference when the service has a smile. There were a couple of mistakes with some side orders but no-one cared becasue we were having such a good time. The food was lovely, the cocktails were tasty & pink - perfect for the hen-do and once again the waiters and barman were brilliant!

A very dissapointing night out at Tamarai.

I got myself and my friends onto the guestlist and we forked out £15 each to get into this place. This was the biggest waste of money I have ever paid to get into a club in London, especially as many clubs are free entrance for girls.

Some people said the DJ left early on in the evening and others said he simply didn't turn up. Either way we had to put up with songs that repeated at least 5 times throughout the night!

The club also didn't fill up as there were less than 50 people on the dancefloor.

When I asked the manager for a refund he told me I needed to get in touch with the promoters!

I won't be coming back here in a hurry.

Having read some of the reviews I have to firstly agree the service charge is a joke 12.5% is the highest I have ever paid when eating out in town. However taking cost away from the review, because let's face it when your eating out as part of a date and going to the theatre after, cost isn't really an issue the issue is having a nice evening so I would have to say Tamarai gave me and my boyfriend a nice night. The decor is gorgeous and very spaced apart from other diners. Its cool and well air conditioned which we were grateful for being a hot summers day. Cocktails were lovely, refreshing with a huge choice or drinks. My boyfriend had green curry I had mushrooms and although the main dishes don't come with rice, which I must add is similar for other thai restaurants in london, there is the option for you to order rice extra. Although portions are small there is just enough on the plate to fill you up, and its tasty too this is a restaurant not a buffet diner so please expect small sized portions. My only criticism is that staff need to be more friendly and smile more as they are helpful but not in a comfortable friendly manner. If you like thai food and cocktails I would advise to try it first and read the reviews after.

If you get the opportunity to avoid this establishment then do so. I took my parents here for what was supposed to be a special occasion, it turned out anything but.

When we arrived, the front of house could not find our reservation and when we showed the reservation on a blackberry we were dismissed and rudely ordered to 'stand by the bar'. After 20 mins they begrudgingly seated us in a dark corner. We ordered the chef's taster menu and a bottle of wine. The food arrived sporadically, was average at best, and served by the most unattentive staff I have ever come across. When we decided to leave, the bill was presented with a 12.5% discretionary service charge calculated on 100% of the bill, not on the 50% cost which we had booked through Top-table - upon asking for the bill to be recalculated the staff flatly refused and said it was house policy. After a heated discussion it was agreed to recalculate the service charge, but only because I was quite happy to create a scene about it; we paid and left.

Overall, the evening was ruined by sub-standard food and service - should one really have to argue with the management when the bill is clearly wrong? We will certainly not be going back, and I would urge people to avoid Tamarai at all costs, there is better service at Pizza Hut.

Highly disappointed - firstly the waitress took our order, our entrees came out then our mains came out, the waitress got all our orders wrong, when questioned by her manager she said that is what we ordered when we clearly didn't. The manager showed me the orders and I told him what was correct and what wasn't, this was rectified and the correct meals came out. A friend got to the restaurant late (the staff were aware of this) however she was not asked if she wanted to order any drinks. When it came to paying the bill we told the waitress that we weren't happy paying the service charge of 12.5% (ridiculous!) as we weren't happy with the service. She said that this service charge was not discretionary and that it had to be paid (funny that it says on the menu a discretionary charge of 12.5% would be added to the bill, to me this means it is not compulsory!). We spoke with the manager, who was rude and spoke to us using a high tone, we did not appreciate being spoken to like that and we were left with no option but to pay the service charge. If I had the energy I would have taken this further but I paid to keep the peace. Even though the food was good, I don't recommend Tamarai, the manager is rude, staff don't know what they are doing and the service charge which is compulsory is ridiculous. The customer is always right, but clearly for Tamarai they aren't!

I had high expectations of Tamarai after seeing some decent reviews and a friend giving it the thumbs up. Unfortunately, after visiting myself at the weekend I have to give it the thumbs down! There wasn't anything great about it, apart from the decor. The food is too overpriced for what it is, eg Thai Green Curry £15 and that's without the rice! I've had better in my local Thai restaurant in the East End. The drinks were too overpriced but that's Central London for you! Now you wouldn't mind if the food was nice but I've got to say it really wasn't all that. I've had better rice from boil in the bag. The service wasn't great either. The waitress whipped away the dishes before you could get the last speck of rice out, I was left holding the spoon without the dish to put it back in! All very rushed and now comes the worst part the manager. What a greedy obnoxious so and so. We were told or should I say threatened that if we didn't pay the (discretionary as it states in their menu) service charge we should go and pay the £15 it costs to get in on the door, absolutely appalling! He was dreadful and didn't care to listen. Although I must point out there was another waiter who was very good and came over with a bottle of champagne to make amends. It left us all with a bad taste in our mouths. Also it was too hot so they need to look at that. Now onto the club part. This was better but I found the music outdated and they played too much Hip-hop when I expected it to be more varied. The toilets are too small and very awkward. To sum it up it looks good but doesn't quite have the service etc to match. If this is the best restaurant in Covent Garden then I'd eat my hat!

Tamarai= TERRIBLE! I want to be able to give it 0 stars but the least this site will let me give is 1. Went there Friday hoping for good music and a fun night- what a disappointment! Firstly, it's guest list only so I emailed the guest list to request places, got no reply and when we turned up they just shrugged at us. Anyway, street promoter got us in but wish they hadn't bothered! The drinks are extremely overpriced, usual for London you might say but I've been to plenty of places in London where they're not. I don't even mind paying a bit more in places where it's worth it- Tamarai isn't.The music, which was advertised as 'sexy rnb', was awful. They barely played a single track released past the 90s, which must be the norm as it was populated by middle aged people. Not that there was even many of them, it was dead and didn't pick up all night. I'm not dissing middle aged people here (no offence) but if you're a group of young people looking to hang out with like minded people I'd steer well clear.

They shut the seating area at 12 and asked us all to move, no idea why, which meant the only people who could sit down were those who'd forked out for tables. Usually I wouldn't care about seating and would be up there dancing with the best of them but the atmosphere was so dire I couldn't face it. We eventually decided to leave and asked for our money back. The door staff were rude and said they couldn't possibly leave their 'stations' (what are they in Basra?!) to get the manager so we went back in to speak to him ourselves. He simply said 'we don't do refunds' and walked away, couldn't have cared less that we'd had a terrible time in his club. So, in short, if you're thinking of going to Tamarai- DON'T DO IT!! There are loads of decent clubs in London, don't waste your money and hours of your life you'll never get back in this dive.

Was very disappointed with the staff here at this restaurant and for the price you pay I would have expected the food to be far superior to what it was and the portions sizes to be of a better size. We waited ages for someone to serve us drinks, once we had the waiter then nearly dropped all the glasses over one of the diners at our table. Further to this all our orders were brought out at different times and not served to the people that had ordered them, instead we had to pass them around ourselves to the correct person. When we questioned the 12.5% service charge and told them that we would like to pay 10% we were told that it was not discretionary that we had to pay it and if we wanted our starters at the same time we should have told them!! Sorry I didn't realise that when you go out to a restaurant these days you actually have to tell them how and at what times they should be serving their meals... especially if you are paying astronomical prices. I would NOT to recommend this restaurant to anyone and I will never be going there again.

BE VERY AWARE OF THE SERVICE CHARGE!!!We recently went to Tamaria restaurant for a friends birthday party. 21 of us decided to have the Chef's tasting menu which is normally priced at £52 per person but on offer for £26 per person. When we received the final bill we split the total amount due amongst the 21 covers. The next morning when glancing down at the bill to my horror I noticed that Tamarai had charged 12.5% gratuity on the £52 and not on the actual total per head of £26. When I called the manager to explain this mistake I was very abruptly told that this is what they do all the time and that it says clearly at the bottom of the chef's tasting menu that a 'Discretionary staff gratuity of 12.5% shall be added to your bill'. I tried explaining to the manager that no where does it say that this gratuity will in fact apply to the original amount and not to advertised 'offer' amount. COME ON!! In anyone's eyes this would be classified as steeling from the customer.

Charging a gratuity on an amount which is not what the customer agreed to pay is not right!! If the restaurant can get away with this kind of under hand behaviour who knows what else they are charging on their bills - PLEASE BE AWARE. Send the bill back if needs be.

As most of the reviews are about the food, I thought I'd add one about the music on a Saturday night. As a girl who likes her music straight up sexy us r'n'b with a liberal dash of commercial hiphop and the occasional commercial dancehall tune, Tamarai was pretty good. There was a slight garage aberration for about 20minutes which was not at all good (as evidenced by the deserted dancefloor during this period) but otherwise not bad. I've been searching for somewhere that plays decent music all night without mixing in any of this funky house stuff that I can't stand and this is probably the best I've found in London.

However, there's still room for improvement! The drinks were very expensive but I suppose that's London for you and the atmosphere could do with definite improvement. Whilst everyone was nice and polite and there were no disturbances, there were a lot of women and there were very few tall, dark, handsome men as most of them were under 5' 5" ! The bar could do with serving its drinks in quality plastic glasses rather than real glass as everytime a glass was dropped on the dancefloor, the bouncers stood around in a circle waiting for it to be cleared up which of course meant less dancing room. Air conditioning could also do with improvement on the dancefloor. So, in all, a pretty good place to dance, not a good place for pulling.

What a wonderful way to spend New Year's Eve. The food was outstanding and the wine pairings were awesome! Would definitely visit again soon!

We went to tamarai on a Friday night. Both the food and service was extremely poor. Very overpriced! We refused to pay for the £28 service charge that they placed on our bill, as a result the manager told us that if we wanted to stay then we would have to pay an extra £15 each as we did not want to pay the extra cost. I will not be going to Tamarai ever again!! Worst service, atmosphere and food ever!

Well where to begin, having sold itself as an upscale central London club with stunning interior, great music, amazing drinks and you would leave having had one of the memorable nights of your life... did Tamarai live up to expectations NO!

After insisting on making us wait in the rain when there was no queue they then increased the entry fee from £15 to £20, even though we were on the guest list, because it was 1140pm and the price went up at midnight??

We paid inspite of the atittde of the door staff as we expecting this wonderful nightahead of us.... Not only was it dead inside the venue left much to desired and we'd walked into what appeared to be a student night... it had an over 21 policy and most of the whole 15 or 16 people in there looked like they had barely hit puberty.

After paying nearly £20 for 2 drinks, which really didnt warrant the price tag we left. dont get me wrong i dont mind paying for expensive drinks.. we'd been drinking at mayfair hotel before which had similar prices but it was worth it not watery cocktails filled with watered down mixers.

When we asked to speak to the manager the guy front of house said he didnt know who the manager was?? Seriously what front of house staff in Central London club dont know who the manager is?

the manager happened to emerge was so rude and patronising and had a security guard come and stand next to him? He said just put it in an e-mail?In all my years going out in London, never have I been so dissappointed in a club. Please I beg of of you for your own sake dont waste your time or money.

We dined at 6 of Covent Garden’s top restaurants this week and Tamarai was clearly the best.

Superb service, Outstanding food with a great tasting menu and wine pairing. Great going!!

I Think James Douglas/ James Doug works at Tamarai because his reviews are very flattering despite this place being a serious waste of time and money. The staff are appalling, the atmosphere dire and the drinks mediocre. Save your money......go somewhere else!!

This place is a no go area, if you dont want to be treated with respect then this may seem like your ideal bar, doormen were rude, with a queing policy when the place was empty and felt like a friday student night!!

we wanted to speak to the manager to express our disgust and misguidance from the website but overall he disreaguarded us and was so patronising and told us to put it in a email!!

we left within the hour!! and warned passers by not to go there!!
