I have to thoroughly agree with the last review. I was flying solo this evening so was not looking for anything special, nor to linger over a romantic candlelit table for one. Nonetheless I still expect to leave sated and satisfied. I left neither.

I had one of soups to start. Hot n Spicy something. Please excuse my description but 'texture de phlegm' springs to mind. And when you got past the spicy taste, the ingredients if you made the mistake of trying to actually taste them made me think fondly of the gherkin one was served on the original mcdonald's burger.

As with the last review, I should have left then. Possibly I didn't order well, as I was quite hungry after work. I opted for the Vietnamese Curry and fried rice. The rice was cold and the fried element seemed to be the stringy egg that was mixed through the boiled rice. The curry was truly awful. As I mentioned, I was hungry. I did manage to get almost half way through. The chicken did have a texture. I can say that much for it. Not pleasant nor particularly unpleasant, definitely textural.

Tastewise - euuugh (technical term). I have to admit I'm a little unsure what Vietnamese Curry is. From what I can gather, it's second hand curry bought from the chinese take-away around the corner. Something slightly used about it. When I made a complaint. Something I admit I am not particularly strong at, the owner said the couple beside me had the same and they were happy.

Oh well, fair enough so. I do apologise. She did say she would speak to the kitchen. Obviously not while I was there however. I gave up and left. Truly hideous. Don't go there. There are some very nice vietnamese over near Old St. Do yourself a favour and make the trip. The beer was nice mind you. Although it was chinese so I don't think they can really take the credit for that.

such a great story maker! first of all, thang long doesn't have any soup for starter, second, there are not any chinese beer on the menu. Growing up, women.

Great restaurant , wonderful food . It was my first taste of Vietnamese food and not my last . The lady was very helpful with the menu and I enjoyed all her suggestions ( The sea bass main dish was superb ) . Had 3 coarses plus wine for about £20 so good value

I'm pleased you had a wonderful meal at Thang Long in Camden. Sadly, my experience was very different.

My first complaint is that the food, regardless of its consistency, is all served on small oblong 80s yuppie style plates. The shared starter was dreadful - we should have left then and there. Cold, thin shop bought prawn toasts, cold chicken satay with peanut butter dip (!), 2 measly ribs with very little meat on them, smothered in a indistinguishable, heavy on the cornflour, sauce.
I opted for the Green Chicken Curry with coconut rice. Two slabs of sweet potato and 3 cubes of chicken drowned in what appeared to be chip shop curry sauce! No hint of chilli, coriander, lemongrass or anything resembling Vietnamese ingredients. The rice was, wait for it, cold. Oh, and someone had poured half a can of poor quality coconut milk all over it - so much so, that the too small oblong plate it all arrived on, had this vile liquid dripping over the sides.
I didn't eat the meal having explained why to the waitress, and I asked for my money back.

My partner and I only went there as we were so fond of the much missed Thang Long on Chatsworth Road. Quite possibly the best Thai/Vietnamese food we've ever had. If anyone knows where the owners have gone, please get in touch. Everyone I know in Hackney is in mourning - the Thang Long in Camden is certainly no substitute.
