Do not go here if you want a relaxing place and food. What a nightmare! Went with a few friends at the weekend and staff were hopeless.

Food orders all wrong and 1 1/2 hours to bring us 5 mains. And all at different times so first people had finished 20 mins before some of the others.

Rowdy clientele and just generally awful loud "stag group" crowd type place.

Booked for a birthday party on Saturday for 8 people. Getting drinks from the bar took a very long time as staff seemed not able to understand us, bought the wrong drinks and generally slow.

Ordered food by 8.20pm. First 2 orders arrives at 9.40 after we had complained several times. If we hadn't paid already we would have left by now. Assured all the meals coming out now.

The next 2 arrived 15 minutes later. The last 4 half and hour later and in fact 2 of us asked for a refund and got a takeaway instead. We were told by the staff the kitchen was "a complete mess" by one and "the kitchens a nightmare" by another.

In all it was just under 2 hours for all 8 meals to arrive.By this type a a group of about 30 people had arrived, very loud and rowdy, getting on the tables, falling into us.

We complained but nothing was done about it. All of us left as soon as food finally served and eaten as so loud there and really aggressive groups.

Will never ever go again. Birthday completely ruined

I am the general manager and in reply to the previous review. We did double book on the day in question. As soon as we realised our mistake we acted. We offered as an apology a meat at one of our sister pubs. Where you quite happy to go and accept our apologies with a meal on us for over £100.
again we are sorry that we were not able to host your party.

My daughter and I booked my 50th birthday party at this venue four or five months ago. I paid a deposit. The week of my birthday, I was in Rome when someone from the Abbey Tavern called my daughter and said that they were cancelling our booking. My daughter and a friend went to pay for the food the saturday before the event, and nothing was said. They initially told us that there was an electrical fault, only to be told by someone else that we had been cancelled so that a wedding could take our place.
This is a dispicable way to treat people and I would encourage anyone that needs a venue for a special celebration, to go to The Vine on Highgate Road. The space was better and we were treated really well considering that they accommodated us at such short notice. (my daughter booked it on Friday morning for the saturday)James the manager was a true gentleman and the food was fantastic. The room was also free of charge. The Abbey charges £100 for their small room and terrace.
So..if you don't want to have your booking cancelled with three days notice, avoid this pub like the plague.

So so disappointing. The food is just too bad, even for a local who is desperate for this place to be good.

I've rediscovered the Abbey thanks to the couple of nice days we've had lately. I live around the corner from it and don't have a garden so it's really nice to sit in their garden with a cold glass of rose and a nice plate of veg gumbo! I think it might be under new management as well as the decor has changed a bit and so has the food and drinks.

The Abbey has a humongous beer garden and reasonable range of Belgian beers, if a little over priced. Bar snacks seemed a little expensive, but the Abbey is definitely worth stopping by for a pint or 3 of White Kronenbourg if the weather's nice enough to sit outside.

The food at The Abbey is very good, and they offer an excellent selection of Belgian beers. The bar is kept separate from the restaurant which means a relaxed and quiet place to eat.

Then once you've finished your meal you can head to The Abbey bar for a few drinks!
