The Albion is a very twee Woolwich pub. It’s probably not the sort of place that punters travel too far to get to – it’s definitely more of a locals' drinking den.

The Venue
As with many pubs in Woolwich, The Albion isn’t the most convenient place to travel to, although it’s located on several bus routes or a 10-15 minute walk from Charlton Station.

Blended into the background on a corner, The Albion looks almost like a working mans pub, but is actually quite surprising inside. Due to its intimate size, you get that tumbleweed feeling as you walk in if you’re not a local. There’s a small outdoor area with a couple of benches, which is concealed from the main road by a tall bamboo fence. The bar stretches the length of the room and serves both sides of the L-shape.

The pub seems to have adopted a nautical theme, as with many of the bars in this area. There are a row of brass keepsakes nailed to the bar and many pictures of ships adorning the walls. There are three games machines, a dartboard, and tealight candles on the tables. A nice touch are six pretty mini chandeliers hanging in a row with crystal droplets and a delicate leaf design.

The Atmosphere
The atmosphere at The Albion is warm and cosy. It’s very welcoming once you’ve become a regular, but a bit intimidating thanks to the diminutive size of the pub and the location. It has a very loyal following of local punters who all know each other.

The Drink
There’s a good selection of drinks at The Albion, from beers to spirits. They offer several different whiskeys and brandys - all mainstream with nothing too extravagant - as well as a few well known bottled ales including Bombadier, Tanglefoot, London Pride and Thirsty Ferrett. Other bottles offered include WKD, Smirnoff Ice, Becks, Budweiser, and Bulmers, and on draught you’ll find John Smiths, Fosters extra cold, Kronenberg, and Scrumpy Jack cider all at reasonable out of London prices – around £2.80 a pint.

The Last Word
A sweet, quaint little local boozer is an accurate description of The Albion - prepare to make some new friends.
