The ViewLondon Review
The Anchor is a hot spot for local darts fanatics...
The Venue
Tucked away in the heart of the Battersea/Clapham border lies The Anchor pub. Inside, the decor is pretty dated and uninspired. However, what it lacks in charm it makes up for with friendly staff, who are happy to chat when they have the time.
The Atmosphere
This is definitely an old man’s pub; the only music is via a jukebox and card games are a frequent pastime for the regulars. They also have several darts teams representing the pub. The local Travelodge introduces a few extra punters but generally the age range is north of 30.
The Food
There is no food menu to speak of, but if you ask the land lady nicely she might rustle up a toasted sandwich, with standard fillings of cheese and ham, for £2.50.
The Drink
There is a choice of seven draught ales, lagers and ciders; a pint of Kronenbourg costs £3.30. Bottled lager averages £2.95 and you can get the usual Beck’s and Budweiser alongside a couple of old-school tipples like Newcastle Brown Ale. Reasonably priced wine is also on offer.
The Last Word
The Anchor isn’t anything special but it does have its darts teams to keep those fond of the oche happy.
