The ViewLondon Review
This sleek, amiable bar perched on Ludgate Hill is a departure from the stuffiness of your average wine bar in The City. The VenueBright, cheerful and modern best sums up the decor of The Apostle. With plenty of comfy seating sporting a haphazard mixture of textures and colours, the blend of similar tones ties everything together and the richness of the red walls adds effortless vibrancy to the place. Large glass windows allow light to stream through, creating a fresh, airy feel in the bar, but the low lighting in the evenings transforms the place from elegant to sexy with ease.
The AtmosphereAnyone and everyone feels comfortable to drink at The Apostle, but it’s mostly populated with swish young City workers looking to chill out with a few drinks and good company. Lively, alternative music keeps the vibe casual and fun, and the cosiness of seating areas melt the day’s woes away, allowing you to appreciate your drink and the sociable banter of your friends. The extremely helpful and friendly service makes the evening go smoothly leaving little to complain about.
The DrinkThe Apostle has a simple motto: ‘Life is too short to drink the same wine every day.’ Not only is it catchy, but it emphasises their passion for good wine. All the wine served is globally sourced from unique outlets, and they believe that good wine has a moderate alcohol level (12.5%), meaning the complexity of each bottle can fully come through. The wine is preserved with Le Verre de Vin system, ensuring any you order will be in perfect condition, which comes through in the quality of the taste. From £13-£70 for a bottle, there’s a wide range of prices with informative staff and menu’s to help you pick the right one. Classic cocktails like Mai Tai and Cosmopolitans can add a fruity kick to the evening for £6 a glass. Also available are simple snacks and platters for peckish groups to nibble on.
The Last WordA sign hanging above the door inside says ‘See you tomorrow’. With the excellent wine selection and relaxed atmosphere, you probably will end up back there again and again.
