i went into the atlas in the middle of may,the first time for forty years, it was like a time warp, the only thing that had changed is that the dividing wall between the public and saloon bars had been taken down. I was even looking for the piano which had been on the right hand side as you walked in the rear door. the staff were pleasant and convivial.

A group of us have been using this pub for an after show drink over a few days and whilst it could be really pleasant and the food does look good the atmosphere is unfortunately ruined by the surliest manager you will ever find.

Inevitably any requests to do with service get dealt with by him and he talks to you like you are cretin who shouldn't even be wasting his time.

Why this guy is being employed in a service industry and to deal with the public I don't know but AVOID him at all costs it you are using the pub - the sarcasm he hurls at punters at drinking up time is quite spectacular too.

We will be going somewhere else in future.

I absolutely love this place. Have been going here, on and off, for about 5 years now. They have got everything spot on, on each visit. Great staff, best ale in Earl's Court by a country mile, stellar wine list and a kitchen that pumps out the best, most honest food of any pub I've ever been to. Keep up the good work!

I am SO disappointed I can't tell you. I used to really rate this pub, for its staff, ambience, and most of all its food. Persuaded my boyfriend to meet me there the other day. Really talked it up. What a mistake. The staff were surly and indifferent. And the food. Well, I had pasta with clams. It was good, but nothing special, could have done it better at home to be honest and that is annoying in and of itself. But i decided to have a glass of white wine to go with it. a pinot. not such a big issue you might think. except it came warm. i don't mean room temperature, i mean warm. I asked for either some ice or a cold glass of wine and the staff looked at me as if I was bonkers. a glass of COLD pinot grigio they seemed to say. Incredible! I took my ice and watered the bl**dy thing to bits and drank my spritzer and ate my pasta. but that wasn't even the half of it. my boyfriend ordered a rib eye. my oh my was this a lesson in how to get a steak wrong, and then how to get customer service wrong. it turned up as THE most unappetizing piece of grey stringy meat you could ever hope not to see. and it was just all soft and really horrible. he wasn't going to complain but I was having none of it. I took it back to the bar (as no one had come to see if we were ok) and when I explained the problem, the manager just looked at me again as if I was mad. Look at it I said. he asked if we didn't want it rare after all!! rare yes, cooked under or on a warm grill so no flavour or texture was added and undercooked at that NO! so he said he would speak to chef. He then came to the table and asked boyf if he would like something else as if they did another steak it would come out the same. what, crap we both cried??? we were determined now (especially me as I had long finished my meal) to get this steak so we described how to cook a rib eye rare and out came a perfect delicious steak. NOT what you expect from a foodie gastro pub. will not be returning.

The Atlas is the best food pub in West London and as such deserves not to have their immaculately sourced and hung beef doused in garlic and black pepper as the last reviewer requested. The chef is very good, for heavens sake trust him. He is also very busy and under pressure. I eat and drink regularly in the Atlas and in six years have never had a bad experience.

The food is delicious, imaginative and seasonal, the wine list excellent and they do the best Bloody Mary in london. I love the Atlas and I won't hear a bad word said!

We arrived at The Atlas at 18:45 and the bar staff served all us our drinks before telling us that the children had to be out by 19:00. As we had heard such good things about the pub we sent the kids and ordered food. I went to the bar at a couple of minutes before seven to ask for a menu. Immediately I was told that I couldn’t have a menu until seven.

When I complained the evening manager begrudgingly gave me a menu and told me that he didn’t like people ordering too soon in the evening. When I asked if I could have my steak cooked in garlic and black pepper and could I buy the chef a drink for taking the extra trouble, I was told by the manager that he didn’t want to bother the chef and the steak would be as normal. The waitress was really nice about bringing us extra bread, but the only complaint I have about the food was that I asked for my steak to be medium rare but was given a steak with no colour whatsoever. It’s a shame that The Atlas has a reputation for excellent food and service that it can’t deliver. I for one will never be drinking or eating there again.

I simply love the Atlas. Old worldy, The Atlas just oozes charm when all the other bars in the area seem to be working to the same, boring formula. The Atlas gets my vote!

Really nice in the summer, as The Atlas has a lovely courtyard you can sit in. Not sure about the shabby chic interior but they had a good selection of ales as well. Keep up the good work Atlas!
