My boyfriend and I stumbled across this pub on Sunday whilst exploring East Finchley. It was buzzy inside even at 3:30pm on a Sunday and they serve food all day. The roast coming out looked fantastic however we opted for Dexter bee pie and fish and chips both of which for fantastic- the homemade tartar sauce was really something quite different.

The only negative was the amount of children and I would recommend opting to stay in the bar and not the dining room as they're are no children in the bar area. However if you do have children this has to be one of the best places I have seen with colouring in books balloons and a full children's menu.

I will definitely be back even if just for a pint of Fruli.

We stumbled on the Bald Faced Stag in East Finchley when staying in Muswell Hill. The large dining room towards the rear of the building was laid out with tables and chairs as well as leather upholstered booths. The music was slightly retro adult-rock, which seemed to fit the ambiance well. The waiting staff was friendly, polite and attentive, and the service was swift.
I had a starter of Crab and Haddock Cakes, which were served piping hot, and packed with fish and flavour, not the usual potato-packed cakes here! My wife tried the intriguing Vodka Cured Salmon, which subtly combined the fish and alcohol, without the booze being overpowering.
My main course was a generous serving of Wild Rabbit Pie. Served with Ginger Carrots, (that’s whole carrots flavoured with ginger), and packed with sumptuous meat and gravy, this was a real treat of flavour and texture.
My wife’s Onglet Steak was cooked perfectly medium rare as requested, and was very tender and with a great, almost kidney-like taste.
Although we were eating in the evening, the Chef was good enough to prepare a Handmade Burger and Chips from the lunch menu, for our teenage daughter, and Sausage and Mash for our grandson.
We do stay in that part of London from time to time, so we shall definitely be back. All in all, a great meal in a great Gastro Pub.

Everything was fine at this restaurant, the setting was nice, the food was ok, and then unfortunately the waitress was rude to my 6 year old son.
At first it seemed like a child friendly place but it turned out not to be at all.
We didn't even leave a tip which is something I never do, but she really left a sour taste in our mouths.

Really disappointing as it appeared to have so much potential.

Bald Faced Stag - strongly not encourage that place or any thing in that area for that matter: Below mediocre food quality with pomposity and prices of the Claridges... My Sunday roast stated Angus Sirloin Beef, I am very sure that it was no where near Angus Cattle Producers and the cut was more like poor man’s steak, chuck, definitely did not come from anywhere even near short loin.

My starter was suposed to be king prawns - well for 8 quid one would expect at least that the description represents that reality at its minimum. I got five minute shrimps!

There are plenty good pubs in the area - less costly and better food!

I recently ate at the Stag with a girlfriend and at first we were not sure about eating there as we did not want to eat in a pub.

We had heard about the Stage from friends and were aware that there was a separate dining area.

The dining room was impressive and more importantly the food was excellent; we were both pleasantly surprised at both the quality and presentation of all dishes (as it was more like the type of food we would expect in a fine dining establishment).

We were a bit overwhelmed by the choices which on hand was good but also a long list however we found plenty to choose from.

The service was great we had an Australian waiter and a well spoken waitress who both really looked after us even though it was very busy.

Overall I would go back again and take a group of friends as also it is the type of place to meet up for celebrations- very good food and service- keep up the good work guys.

I love the BFS. Come here often on my own and the staff always makes me feel welcome. The food is to die for, whether it's hearty winter grub or more elaborate courses (make a table reservation at weekends or you may miss out)

Whether you want to chat with the locals, have a good booze-up with friends, take your nan out for dinner or just read the papers or a book, this is the place where you'll feel at home. At least I do.

Went here on Friday. Place was packed but we found the service fast, efficient and above all friendly.

Food was good, fairly reasonably priced. I had duck confit with red cabbage and beans. Delicious, duck was lovely and tender, flavour of beans really good combination. Fantastic sticky toffee pudding for dessert

|Our waitress was on form, entertaining, attentive and knowledgable about the food and wine.

Would definitely go again.

Nice beer garden too.
