The ViewLondon Review
A classic English pub in the heart of Borough.
The Venue
The Barrowboy and Banker is situated on the South side of London Bridge in the heart of Borough. The nearest tube stations are London Bridge and Monument, which are both about five minutes away. The building itself is quite grand with a beautiful, original sweeping staircase leading to the upper level, a curved bar and several impressive paintings adorning the walls. There’s also a small outdoor seating area, which is great for warmer months.
The Atmosphere
The Barrowboy and Banker is a convenient pit stop for Borough market shoppers or workers from the surrounding offices. It’s fairly quiet during the day but fills up with suits for apres-work drinks. It’s both friendly and informal - ideal for a casual pint.
The Food
The food on offer at Barrowboy and Banker is traditional pub grub and is relatively cheap for Central London. As a Fuller’s pub, you can expect a good selection of pies with all the trimmings. You have to order at the bar, but the staff are efficient and friendly and the service is quick.
The Drink
The bar boasts a great selection of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, and also serves a good choice of Fuller’s ale. Prices are reasonable and you can expect a pint to come in under £3.50.
The Last Word
The Barrowboy and Banker is a nice, central pub in a gorgeous period building that’s worth checking out for simple food and a pint of ale.
