The Best Theatre Bars
Whether you're a budding thespian, fully-fledged actor or merely a simple fan of the stage, London has some cracking pubs and bars attached to theatres. Take a look at the very best theatre bars in our handy guide.
Sneak past the front desk of this 'members club' when the receptionist is not looking (or looking the other way, or before 8pm when non-members are allowed) and you'll emerge into a basement packed full of curios, theatre memorabilia and an awesome crowd of theatre luvies, local in-the-knowers and random famous faces. For our money it remains the outstanding pick on our best theatre bars in London list.

Soho Theatre Bar
21 Dean Street, Soho, London, W1D 3NE
The Soho Theatre has a reputation for bold, contemporary theatre and the biggest names in comedy, but its bar offers good food, sharp cocktails and a lively atmosphere making it an attractive proposition in its own right.

The Gatehouse
1 North Road, Highgate, London, N6 4BD
A highlight of this sprawling, historical pub in Highgate is its upstairs fringe theatre, opened in 1895 as a ‘place suitable for balls, Cinderellas and concerts’. Bet you never thought you’d hear a Wetherspoon's pub described in such a way.

Ye Olde Rose and Crown
53 Hoe Street, Walthamstow, London, E17 4SA
Ye Olde Rose and Crown in bohemian Walthamstow(!) shows how pubs can be transformed by energy and flair. Walthamstow has a theatre to cherish and a pub to enjoy.

Rosemary Branch
2 Shepperton Road, London, N1 3DT
The Rosemary Branch is something of an institution in the Islington area. This pub sits on the corner of Shepperton Street, a stone’s throw from the canal, and it has a history that can be traced back to 1594. Not only is this a traditional pub, but it also has a theatre upstairs, where you can catch an eclectic mix of arts.

The Kings Head
The Kings Head Theatre, 115 Upper Street, Islington, London, N1 1QN
The Kings Head definitely has the feel of a theatre pub: huge stage lights hang from the ceiling; fading, threadbare velvet theatre seats line the walls; and the walls are covered with photos and posters of the theatre’s many productions since it was established in 1970. As well as holding down a busy live music roster in the pub, the attached theatre punches way above its weight with intimate operas, award-winning plays and much more.

The Curtains Up
28a Comeragh Road, Kensington, London, W14 9HR
The Barons Court Theatre resides below this popular Geronimo Inns boozer near Barons Court tube. A decent selection of ales and wines complement the food offering, which, typically for Geronimo pubs, is very respectable indeed. Pre and post theatre options are available for those combining a visit to the theatre with a bite to eat.
