The ViewLondon Review
A plush and luxurious drinking den offering everything from cocktails to beer and champagne, this bar is certainly the black sheep of the area – and it’s a very good thing it is, too.
The Venue
On popular Westow Hill, The Black Sheep has a dark and exclusive-looking exterior. As you walk through the door, there are plush sofas as far as the eye can see. Mainly corner sofas and leather stools, the seating is cleverly arranged in large sections; this is a great place for groups. The colour scheme is deep purples and dark wood, with large cushions, low lighting and big mirrors lining the walls.
The Atmosphere
Sure to be bustling in the evenings, especially over the weekend, Black Sheep has a lively atmosphere that still retains a sleek, seductive edge that sets it apart from the crowd. Staff are professional, and focused on making sure you get the drink you want. The outdoor garden and relaxing, cosy interior combine to make this a bar that’s worth visiting whatever the weather.
The Drink
There’s a bit of everything on offer here where drinks are concerned. House cocktails are £5.50 each and include the Prickly Apple – red apple muddled with cinnamon, cognac, lemon and lychee juice, served short over cubed ice. Classic cocktails are just £5.95 and include all the usual favourites – think martinis, Singapore slings and amaretto sours. There’s also a good list of wine, with an impressive three different choices of glass sizes – house wine is £2.55 for 125ml, £3.55 for 175ml and £4.65 for 250ml, and £13.25 a bottle. If you’d rather stick to spirits, they start at £3 for a 25ml measure, and £5 for a 50ml measure. Beers include all the usual, with a range on tap and bottled.
The Last Word
Black Sheep manages to feel exclusive without being pretentious and is a fun place for a night out with friends in SE19.
