The ViewLondon Review
It’s not going to win any awards for style or originality, but if you’re grabbing a quick pint before jumping on the train The Boadicea does the job.The VenueConveniently situated in Charing Cross station, The Boadicea is ideal if you fancy a quick shant whilst waiting for your train. As you enter this traditionally decorated pub you will find stools and tables to your left and right leading you to the bar area where there is a large plasma screen for sports fans. Not exactly inspiring, it’s a typical pub doing its job.
The AtmosphereFrequented by office workers and commuters, The Boadicea doesn’t exactly inspire a party atmosphere, but you’re probably not visiting for the ambience. It does what it says on the tin – it’s a commuter’s pub offering a quick beer to thirsty punters. In it’s favour, it doesn’t feel like you are in the middle of a busy train station and the staff are helpful and polite.
The DrinkThere’s a fairly good choice of draught and bottled beers at The Boadicea, as well as a decent selection of ales. You can choose from a pint of Stella or Grolsh or a bottle of Becks, Bud or Sol. You may also be tempted by a draught Guinness or Strongbow Cider. There is also a very handy takeaway offer of four cans of Strongbow or Carling for only £6 (providing Boris doesn’t extend the drinking ban to the trains!).
The wines are the usual fare, expect to pay £3.20 for a small glass of Sermillon Chardonnay (£13 a bottle) or, if you prefer red, you can pick up a small glass of Merlot Valdivieso for £3.55 (£14.50 a bottle). If you’re more of a spirit drinker there’s a very tempting offer of only an extra £1 for a double. There’s also a limited snack menu of sandwiches, toasties or breakfast baps.
The Last WordThe Boadicea is a run of the mill pub, not one to linger in but fine for those of you who want a quick drink on the run.
