The ViewLondon Review
Located in picturesque Little Venice, The Bridge House offers a unique setting to watch the boats go by on the famous Grand Union Canal whilst enjoying an ice cold beer.
The Venue
Sometimes it’s nice to get out of the city and at The Bridge House, you feel like you’re doing just that. Stylishly decorated with a mismatch of unusual tables, comfy chairs and dramatic rich red drapes throughout, this place is certainly in keeping with its famous theatre upstairs. As well as being a pub, the first floor of The Bridge House is home to the Canal Cafe Theatre, a well-respected comedy theatre with shows running seven days a week.
The Atmosphere
Tucked away in a residential area, this place is never going to be teaming with crowds of people, but if you’re looking for somewhere more relaxed, it’s perfect. The warm, laid back atmosphere of the staff and customers is a real pull to this place, giving it that home from home feel. And with a very popular selection of board games behind the bar, it often has what only can be described as a Christmas Day atmosphere in the evenings with people engrossed in games of Kerplunk and Backgammon.
The Food
The food is very reasonably priced and includes traditional English pub grub as well as healthier options of pastas and salads and a range of shared platters, perfect for a pre-show meal.
The Drink
The beer is a real selling point of The Bridge House. There’s a selection of impressive and interesting beers on tap including Leffe and Hoegaarden, all served in their proper glasses (for beer fans, this is something of rarity!) and a fine selection of bottles, spirits, wines and liqueur coffees.
The Last Word
With such an ideal setting, fantastic selection of beers and good food, you’d expect The Bridge House to have an air of pretentiousness, but it doesn’t, making it even more appealing and a perfect getaway from the city (without really getting away).
