The Bridge House is a clean cut gastropub located just a stone’s throw away from the Tower of London. Despite its quaint location, a few modern touches have kept it from becoming dull.

The Venue
Considering that the surrounding area is made up of a lot of concrete and bricks, The Bridge House has taken its inspiration from nature. Expect a neutral colour palette of different shades of green combined with cream, beige and brown.

There are two distinct seating areas within the one large room, with only subtle differences to mark them apart. One area has a large sofa plus lots of comfy seats to lounge around in for leisurely drinks whilst watching the world go by. The other is opposite the bar, with plenty of tables and chairs to seat famished customers who are enticed by the smells from the kitchen. The overall effect, with the addition of a few impressive plants and bouquets of flowers, is a calm, modern environment that is polished and elegant.

The Atmosphere
The Bridge House is popular with an older crowd of pubgoer - sophisticated and laid back, looking for a nice glass of wine with a hearty meal. This doesn’t exactly create a buzzing, wild ambience but the feeling is relaxed, which is amplified by the friendly service. There’s very little fuss, but there’s enough decorum exuding from each customer to create a distinctive delicate buzz around the room.

The Drink
The focus of this pub is its wine selection, as the blackboard proudly shows. The variation of grape, region and quality is ample, with prices at £12-£19 a bottle. There are, of course, a decent selection of ales that are extremely popular for those who can tell the difference between a good and fantastic ale that has been stored well to deliver maximum taste. Also, there are beers and spirits for those who don’t fancy Chablis or Broadside.

The food that is served isn’t your typical pub grub of burgers and pies – it’s British classics with a modern twist, making this place qualify as a good gastro pub.

The Last Word
Simple but with a touch of class, The Bridge House is an enjoyable place for a leisurely Sunday afternoon drink and meal.
