(Continued from above review)

Apparently the ticket machine went down at the exact time we placed our order and then started working again 30 seconds after when the table next to me order, silly ticket machine! Nothing to do with the waitress not entering it...

A free drink later, and some bread (that I had to ask for AGAIN!) we ate a mushroom and stilton pie, with no evidence of stilton, and at least a table spoon of pepper accompanied by wall paper paste, sorry bland mashed potato, and a pre made purchased burger that I had to check wasn’t a warm bit of rubber! I’m laughing now thinking about, it’s not even worth saying anymore about the food.

Now please understand I am not some bored, angry little man who goes around writing negative reviews about people and places to make myself feel better. This is the very first, and mostly likely the very last review I have ever written and will ever write. But, my experiences at the The Cambria (TWICE) with the unwelcoming, unhelpful & clueless staff, very amateur cafe cooks brought me to this point.

Good points, the cider was ok, and the jazz band was very soothing, both out of control of the Cambria. Stay well away from this place, save your money and buy a tin of beans from the supermarket.

Steve - I read Dilans review and he is right, the hamburgers are purchased, processed rubbish. Buy some mince and herbs, get a new chef and make your own burgers. You decor is really nice, your staff and food let it down!

Let me start by saying, this is the first ever comment I have posted on any website, I had such a negative experience at the Cambria (twice!), I just had to comment. First Visit–we went for lunch, during the week, no one else in there, we thought in and out 30 mins! 1 hour and ten minutes later we received our lunch. Yes, 1 hr 10 mins! At no point did the very unfriendly bar staff come to explain, at the 45 minute mark I had to enquire, which I was told, it was 5 mins away, I asked this 3 times. We had to ask for some bread to eat (not offered!), as we were starving. Apparently the lentils needed cooking from scratch, which we know takes along time. How about telling us that when we ordered! It would have been nice to be given the choice to order something quicker! After much disappointment, they offered us a voucher for two free meals. Second Visit–3 months on-what a mistake! After presenting the voucher, the hospitality went very cold, you think they would have bent over backwards! Why do they have a free voucher? Let’s take extra care of them as there must be for a reason.’ Well, you would at least think they would asked! You won’t believe this, but 1 hour and 10 mins later we received our very average meal! After the table next to us received their meal, 50 mins after ordering curry and rice, I went to ask how long our meal would be only to be told the ticket had not printed and the kitchen doesn’t have our order. I explained why I had the free voucher, and what happened last time. The owner was informed, she then left the table she was drinking at with friends, came over and apologized, saying respeatedly-i don’t know what to say- Say something I said, at least explain? Apparently the ticket machine went down at the exact time we placed our order and then started working again 30 seconds after when the table next to me ordered. Nothing to do with the waitress not putting the order in.(i have run out of space, I will continue in next review)

Well having scoured the internet for a new review of this pub, I thought I'd add one and give you an update on whats been happening.

When this was refurbed about 2+ yrs ago, the food was very good and the service friendly. Over the past 8 months or so there has been a dramatic dip in everything, and before I go on, I very much doubt the garden will seat 70 people.....

We have told the staff that work here that the burgers are not nice and the buns are very cheap, now at a cost between £7 and £10 depending on the evening this is quite steep for a processed burger and a awful bun. Yet the staff and owners have not yet grasped this. It say on the menu that XXX and XXX hand pick the food from Smithfields market....Hmmm I'm not sure which food that is as some of it is not nice. It is going back to the dark days of been a 'locals' drinking hole. Yes they have some live music which in itself is good, but please the food, get better down the Grand Union in Camblewell.

I would say that if you live near, which we do then it is fine for a drink, not the food, the staff were very unfriendly recently to the point where one of the latest employees, did not even say please or thank you when I was given my change....3 times...

It seems to me as this is not a place to be frequented if you just want a drink, however there is nicer and more frendlier bars not more than 10/15 mins walk away.

My rating 4 out of 10, which may seem harsh but they are just not listening to it's patrons...simples!

I was there only last week, yes the garden was closed off but this was due to work being done on the first floor,

We found the staff very attentive and my foreign visitors were only perplexed by the fact that the English do not have bread on the table as a given. The streaks were done just as we requested them, the drinks came and the bar staff checked if we needed re-fills and the hand cut chips were done to perfection, and as always the atmosphere was very good.

It was early afternoon on a very wet August but the place was very good, easy to park after two, ideal for just 'chillin' out..

Hi Diilan
A little late with my response, sorry for that. I truly am very sorry that your experience at the cambria was so disappointing. I have read your review several times now and am still pretty upset by it. I have already held a staff meeting and can assure you that there should not be a repeat of the bad (unfriendly) service that you had when you came last time.
Moving on to the Burger saga ! I really can not make any apologies in response to your comments regarding the burger. We have changed our burgers on three occasions during the past two years because we did listen to our customers, some people wanted more seasoning, some wanted home made etc, we have eventually settled with an 8 ounce, 100% beef burger with some seasoning which I would say 90% of our customers enjoy, we can not please everybody.
I also must confirm that before we completed the building works we did have 70 seats in the garden and that we do drag ourselves from our beds at 5am to shop at Smithfield market and New Covent Garden market, to ensure that we can hand pick the best products. We have, as you probably know, been amid the chaos of a massive building project and although it is no excuse i assume that things may have slipped during these works and i am very sorry and I do apologise if that has been the case, the building work has finished now and i hope that if you visit again you will see that we are back on track.
Lastly I am pleased to say that we have just been entered into the "Which" publication "The Good Food Guide 2011", under readers recommendations, I am sure you must agree, a great accomplishment being that it is a publication that you could not pay to be entered into.
Thanks for your feedback, I assure you we will continue to do our best.
Steve
