A quirky, bohemian pub that stands defiantly amongst the upwardly mobile riverside flats that surround it.

The Venue
This unique and inviting local pub gives Putney and Wandsworth residents a wonderful little escape from daily drudgery. With a cosy working fireplace and comfortable wood, leather and velvet furniture, The Cats Back provides guests with a relaxing venue to kick back and unwind. Loveable tat adorns every spare bit of available wall and table space, from random movie posters and photographs to model sailboats and old antique clocks. There is also an upstairs room that can be reserved for private events.

The Atmosphere
Filled with in-the-know locals, The Cats Back is relaxed and attitude free. Clientele range in demographic, but everyone seems to get along nicely. Staff are welcoming and chatty. Soft Latin music spices up the ambience and live jazz music acts perform at weekly events (every Wednesday).

The Food
For a little pub, The Cats Back has a good selection of reasonably priced food. Starters include a lemon mint and pea risotto (£4/£6) and salmon fishcakes with red chilli and beetroot salad (£4/£6). Mains include a beef burger with melted cheese and tomato chutney (£7.50). Those with a sweet tooth can enjoy an apple tart tatin served with crème fraiche (£4). The Cats Back also serves up a traditional Sunday roast with all the trimmings, such as roast pork loin with crackling and apple sauce (£10.25).

The Drink
The Cats Back offers a decent selection of beer on tap and by the bottle. Lagers include Staropramen (£3.90 a pint) and Stella (£3.80 a pint) and bottles include San Miguel (£3.40). Cocktails start at £4.20. The wine list includes an easy drinking French red (Cuvee le Bosq) at £14.00 a bottle and £3.75 a glass. White wines include a zippy Chilean Sauvignon Blanc (Tierra Antica 2009) at £16.50 a bottle and £4.20 a glass. It’s worth noting that The Cats Back is a cash-only bar.
