The ViewLondon Review
Located on Knightrider Street it may not surprise you that The Hoff can be included in The Centre Page’s list of patrons.
The Venue
The Centre Page is a beautifully put together venue. The exterior spans two streets, located as it is on a corner, and the cream and blue colourscheme is sophisticated but eyecatching. In the summer months, a few tables and chairs sit just outside for those City workers fed up of being stuck inside an office all day long. And with views of St Paul's, this is an enticing option.
Inside, the space is large and airy, and the mix of dark and light woods that cover almost every surface work with the neutral creams, warming reds and a swathe of blackboards to create a certain cosiness. The chairs and tables are mainly geared towards dining, despite an additional dining room downstairs, so it does suffer from that gastropub look that drains the character of many watering holes. Still, by City standards this is a pub that has managed to retain its heart.
The Atmosphere
Located on Knightrider Street, The Centre Page includes The Hoff as one of its patrons – he even signed a wall! Cue lots of Hoff jokes, probably more than you can bear. They also boast Alan Carr and Justin Lee Collins as past customers. However, on an average Friday night you’re more likely to find a sea of suits from the local offices with the odd ‘fish out of water’ tourist thrown in for good measure. The atmosphere is upbeat and full of banter and it does make for a decent spot to wind down in after a long week.
The Food
The menu centres around British favourites and burgers mainly, and the prices are on the higher side, as you’d expect from the area. Even a jacket potato comes in at £5.55. Fish and chips, ham and egg, or sausage and mash keep the tourists happy and are better priced at under a tenner. The cannily named London Burger is expensive for £9.35 but then again you do get three – yes three – 8oz burger pattys. Even The Hoff would be impressed with that bad boy.
The Drink
The Centre Page claims to make the ‘best cappuccino this side of Italy’ (if you ask to be served by Agnieska or Silvia) and they promise to make your coffee exactly how you like it. However, if you’d rather come to a pub to – shock horror – enjoy alcohol then they also pride themselves on their award winning cask ales. Unusual options like the Old Horn Bitter are joined by the amusingly titled Night Riders ale, which you have to believe The Hoff enjoyed on his visit. Otherwise, it’s the same old, same old continental lagers and high street spirits.
The Last Word
Well, if it’s good enough for The Hoff...
