A great pub ruined by appalling staff and the habit of serving short measures of beers despite many branded glasses clearly indiating the 'One pint' line.

One male bar staff member was particularly aggressive when asked to top up the glass.

I've raised the matter of consistantly short measures with Mitchells & Butlers on two occasions but their subsequent 'advice' to staff has made little impact.

Try 'The Churchill' in nearby Kensington High Street where the attitude is completely different with really decent staff and full measures without asking.

I agree with the review below. This pub has great potential and I have spent several summer evenings sat by the big open windows and had a nice enough time.

However, any time I have spent there has been marred by the service. The majority of the staff are rude, look bored out of their minds and can barely be bothered to take your order.

They make no effort to pay attention to who arrived first/last, even when it's quiet. I've ended up waiting 15 minutes for a simple orange juice!

Unfortunately this has been the rule rather than the exception the few times I have been there and my friends have said the same.

It doesn't help that food isn't particularly great either.Time to find somewhere new in the area.

The are many great pubs in London where you an relax and feel at home in an atmosphere of hospitality and authentic charm.

Regrettably, The Champion is not one of them. The best that can be said for The Champion is that it has a nice variety of beers and ales, even offering Sierra Nevada on tap.

On the other hand, there is at least an even chance that you will experience "service" that ranges from indifferent and incompetent to absolutely rude.

(Having spent a week in the neighborhood and given The Champion a number of chances, the consistency of this experience leads me to conclude that this is a defect in mangement and training of personnel, not just a fluke or isolated example of bad luck.)

If you find yourself at The Champion, and the service or lack of service has the prospect of becoming annoying - leave immediately.

It does not get any better and there are a number of other pubs in the area that are outstanding.

Great pub. Nice balance of tourists and locals. Great staff.

There is always one Japanese man, dressed in leather boots, standing alone with two drinks at the bar. Beware of this man, he has sharp fingers.

I tend to drink in the Champion a fair bit and can say that it's a decent pub. It might not have a whole lot going for it in terms of being flashy or en vogue - but it serves a decent pint and good food. That's enough for me!
