Been to this bar sporadically over the last 3 years . Seems to have been taken over by new owners recently . Nice ,clean , bright bar and good quality food ; but dont go here if u like your music as new owners have turned the volume down to such an extent making it almost inaudible. Perhaps this is why the bar has been half empty on the last 2 Friday nights that I have visited ? Had to go to the Larrik around the corner for music and better ( more crowded ) atmosphere . Nevertheless still giving it 3 stars .
Best bannoffee pie EVER- if you go here make sure you try it otherwise you are missing out. Lovely pub!!
Fantastic pub with a great garden. Food was delicious, well presented and good value for money. I rarely come across a pub which manages to combine a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere with such varied and quality food offering. The coffee selection was also surprisingly good - they have (and use) a proper espresso machine. Service was friendly and helpful. Overall, great experience.
Sebastian is the enthusiastic twenty something chef at The Chapel and his interest in flavours and constant research and desire to learn are reflected daily in the food served in this, one of the first 'gastro pubs' in London.
The amazing thing about The Chapel is: they pretty much change the menu every day: a challenge this young chef from Marseille greets full on.
The young attractive international staff look after you with a happy smile and you can choose from a large selection of wines on one of the blackboards.
They have just started offering some more serious wines for the local vinophiles. There is a good atmosphere in this friendly gastropub and it gets lively in the evenings.
Guineau Fowl with a mushroom, cream and pomegranate sauce, with mashed potatoes drizzled with truffle oil, some excellent fish dishes and a wonderful pork chop a la Normande are recent dishes of note.
I absolutely love the place and go there at least few times a week (helps I work on the corner).
Great food (especially their chapel burger and steak) and lovely atmosphere.
The staff is nice too, well informed and happy to help. The beer garden is great too.
What an absolute rip off pub! I went there for lunch today with my friend waited half an hour for a focaccia with cheese, tomoto and basil and when it did come it was absolutely tiny! For £5.50 I would expect a bit better than that. Don't go there if you want to leave hungry and with a lighter purse!
I'm keen on the beer garden at The Chapel. The food is very tasty and I feel comfortable sitting in the sun with a pint in the evening after my dinner. The Chapel is a very underrated place and I think more people should realise how great it is.
I don't know why an old review popped into this week's newsletter, but praise of the Chapel is as valid now as it was then. As a customer here since it was the Pontefract Castle (look at the top of the building where the old sign is still visible) I should know.
Good food, a decent range of wines and beers, and a seat to be had if you time it right (i.e. not immediately after work).
The only downside, for which a mark has to be deducted, is the toilets. The main gents is a bit ropey and I am reliably informed that the Ladies is a disgrace!
Chapel serves fantastic food has pleasant, international staff and wonderfully atmospheric simplicity!
