The Charles Lamb is a lovely little pub, nice ales and great music always.
The food is also very good, but WAY too pricey, knock a few quid off everything edible and it'll have a great kitchen.
Staff are nice and they have a pub dog, which is cool.
Good boozer in general.
The Charles Lamb was a big disappointment. When I walked in with some friends and asked a member of staff if we could put our name down for a table in the dining room, she curtly said no. Then I told her my friend had a broken foot and could she give us a shout if she sees a table become available, as standing is a bit tricky for her. She said no 'you've just got to grab one ok?'. Right, OK then. Then they brought my boyfriend the wrong food, over charged us and ceased to even apologise about it. The stuck up staff squeezed every bit of fun out of the evening. What a shame.
a horribly smug pub with terrible staff and service.
i was brought the wrong dish, i told the waitress who ran off and then returned five minutes later and said to me 'so you're ok with that then' pointing to the food. She might as well have told me to f-off. When i said no, she huffed and returned 15 minutes later once everyone else had finished with my ordered, horribly oily soup. I asked for bread, it never came.
My partner had lamb chops with ratatouille and mash. the chops were hot, the mash warm and the ratatouille stone cold.
When we came to pay the bill, they'd charged us too much but didn't apologise.
The food wasn't great but it's the staff that would ever stop me coming back here. They just don't care and nothing is their fault.
Also, watch out if you're drinking draft pints. One beer was £4.70 a pint - Sierra Nevada, a Californian beer that many other pubs in the area sell in bottles for about £3.
Avoid this pub, there are many other better alternatives in the area.
We visited this pub for lunch and left extremely disappointed - in fact we all headed straight to Angel to pick up a sandwich to fill the hole.
There were a number of us in our party and we all felt the food was poor. The chicken sandwich had the smallest amount of chicken in it and the aioli sauce was almost non-existent, also the soup was extremely oily. When asked by the staff if the food was fine we explained the problem and their only response was to say no one had complained before. This might be true but instead of complaining maybe people just don’t bother coming back, which is exactly what we will be doing.
Anywhere that has a pub dog is a winner with me. I went to The Charles Lamb with friends who live in the area and they're so lucky to have someone come along and do such a good job converting a dodgy local. The Charles Lamb has great food and a friendly crowd. I wish someone would do this to locals in my area.
The Charles Lamb do great, great, great food and I love going there for my Sunday lunch or brunch. The atmosphere in the Charles Lamb is lovely and the food is really good value.
I love the food in Charles Lamb, perfectly complemented by the atmosphere and service. The best thing about Charles Lamb is the roast dinner though!
