For all ye fans of real ale head on down to The Clachan for good old fashioned British pub grub and a selection of five weekly rolling guest ales.

The Venue
Located parallel to Regent Street, The Clachan, which is Scottish for meeting place, offers a friendly drinking environment all year round. Built in the late 1800s, the pub’s engraved woodwork and cast iron features are a clear sign it has been kept in original condition.

Various comfortable seating is available throughout the pub and is conveniently placed no more than two steps from the bar. The bar is circular in the middle of the pub, and the detailed wooden shelving creates an interesting display of the diverse real ale badges that have been collected throughout the years. A raised seating area towards the rear of the pub is a great secluded area to host a lunchtime meeting, and the informative books and posters on the walls give you a detailed history of the building’s past. Children are welcome upstairs in the dining area, which is run by a very welcoming bartender who brings food to your table with a smile. Upstairs is available for private hire and regularly holds parties and functions.

The Atmosphere
Expect to see many tourists and backpackers throughout the day and office workers at night. It is also a favourite for all the theatre fans located close to some of the top London shows. The music generally consists of a mix between alternative and modern pop songs although expect a few upbeat dance tracks to find their way onto the playlist. The staff are friendly, including the charming landlady, who will always meet and greet with a smile.

The Food
The food at The Clachan is good, in particular the Sunday roast, which is a choice of beef, lamb, chicken and vegetarian nut roast. Food starts at around £6 and is served all day. A delicious choice is the Cajun chicken flat bread, which consists of spicy chicken breast and salad, wrapped in a sesame seed pita bread covered in mild natural yogurt with a side of chips or baby potatoes.

Great desserts to try from menu are the hot waffles with bananas and ice cream and the giant chocolate cake with custard, all costing less than £4. Service is good and food is served promptly.

The Drinks
If you’re a fan of real ale then you have to pay a visit to The Clachan. The two house ales are the classic pale ale, Timothy Taylor and the UK’s number one selling premium ale, London Pride. The Clachan also offers a selection or weekly rolling guest ales to add variety to your tastes. Double spirit shots are £1 extra and a large glass of house white wine is £4. Try the Pinot Grigio, which is a great accompany to the fish and chips. There is also a nice selection of single malts on offer; however, you must ask the bartender as they are not displayed clearly.

The Last Word
Whether you are travelling through London, working close by, or out for a night on the town, The Clachan offers a friendly environment to plan your night or simple stay to enjoy the variety of real ales on offer with a warm meal brought to your table.
