The ViewLondon Review
A live arts venue bringing culture, music and comedy to Kilburn.
The Venue
The exterior of the Cock Tavern is very traditional with dark green paint and hanging baskets. The outdoor furnishings consist of a small collection of modern wicker tables and chairs. Inside, the large, high-ceilinged venue the decor is neutral with dark wooden furniture and fixtures.
The front half of the Cock Tavern holds a large stage facing back into the pub with a collection of pew-like chairs and wooden tables set up for enhanced audience viewing. A modern carpet covers the floor towards the front of the venue whilst the back half of the pub has wooden floors and less furniture and is ideal for dancing on music nights. The far back section of the venue holds a large pool table and the wooden bar that curves along the right side of the venue connects both sections together.
The Atmosphere
Britain’s got talent! With its busy schedule of comedy, poetry and music nights showcasing a wide array of local talent the friendly, relaxed and easygoing Cock Tavern is popular with the art crowds who turn up to support friends and family, or use it as a platform to express their own individual creativeness.
The Food
Homemade food is made to order from the small yet concise menu. As an events venue the food at the Cock Tavern is mainly quick and easy with dishes like burgers and chips and sandwiches but there are warming additions like sausages and mash and tasty Sunday Roasts.
The Drink
As with all Greene King pubs, the selection of refreshing beers on tap is pretty typical of a British pub with Fosters, Stella and Kronenberg as the lager options and Guinness, Green King IPA and Abbots ale as the bitter selections. There is a good assortment of chilled beers sold by the bottle offering more exotic choices like Corona served with lime and Peroni. The wine list is the typical standard expected in a pub and all the usual spirits are stocked behind the bar. Prices are reasonable and service is fast and friendly.
The Last Word
What better way to support the arts than over a refreshing pint of beer at the Cock Tavern - much better than a stuffy museum any day!
