The ViewLondon Review
In a pretty part of Pimlico, this nautical-themed pub can be hit and miss, but seeing as it doesn't get too hectic even at peak times, it’s perfect for a hassle free drink.
The Venue
On a residential street (Churton Street), in the slightly more desirable end of Pimlico, this old fashioned pub has found itself a regular fan base, which can vary from barfly old men to sophisticated young professionals, depending on the day and time. The nautical theme is strong throughout this small pub, from pictures of boats on the walls to real model boats dotted across the room. Warm wooden panelling, traditional old-fashioned pub furniture and decor help create a homely, familiar feel. A few unique touches, such as a shelf covered in a random selection of plates and other antiques help heighten the grandmother’s antique collection vibe.
The Atmosphere
The mix of the crowd may be odd, and in such a small pub the customers really do have to rub shoulders at peak times, but in general it works. Local old men or lads always seem to be present, as well as a few suits from the nearby offices or commuters from the station, and some trendy residents from the chic townhouses, located a mere stone’s throw away. The atmosphere remains friendly and relaxed enough, and the different groups don’t seem to have a problem with each other, making the pub all the more welcoming.
The Drink
On tap there is a small but typical selection of pub favourites, such as John Smiths, Magners, Carlsberg, Pedigree and Courage Best, all costing around £3.50 a pint. A small and affordable selection of wines and spirits are also available but nothing fancy is stocked behind the bar despite the location.
The Last Word
A quaint pub with a slightly odd mix of people, The Constitution remains a pleasant place to enjoy an affordable pint in the heat of Pimlico.
