I went to The Crown last Friday and I have to say it was absolutely outstanding.
I had never been there before so i took my friends and we had so much fun.
The menu was fabulous as was the entertainment . The staff were great, they had incredible customer service but certainly knew how to make you feel at home.
It was great to see quite a few celebs and people from off the television in there dining too.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I can not wait to go back again!

This restaurant was superb, with good food and excellent service (which is what I value most). Effortlessly well run, in a nice room and a great building.

Went here for a birthday meal arranged by my partner. Have read good reviews plus this place always seems to have showbiz people eating there so if the celebs are eating there it must be good.

The food tops one of the best restaurants we have been to service and staff are great, the 1st class menu goes so well with the wine list. The worst thing about dinning at the crown is trying decide what to have and always leave thinking when am I going back? Love this place.

Lovely room received by happy, attentive and extremely well trained staff.
When you have a special occasion to celebrate the staff will give you that extra bit of attention that makes it more special for you. Well done.

My husband and my first visit on Saturday evening. Very attentive and friendly staff - but not condescending or over-fussy. Excellent food - well presented and complimentary flavours.
Really enjoyed the experience, thank you

I recently took my parents for sunday lunch at The Crown as a treat on my mums birthday. Turns out treat isn't quite the word for dining here

Despite booking in advance and the pub being nearly empty, the food took over TWO HOURS to arrive. This was despite numerous polite reminders to the generally unmoved staff who seemed more put out that the kitchen were letting them down than the customers. When the food did arrive - with no explanation our apology for it's lateness - it was barely edible. My roast lamb was a bunch of fatty offcuts that any decent pub would've binned. Those with better cuts found their meat barely cooked. Items mentioned on the menu as coming with the roast either didn't turn up at-all, or turned up after the food had been eaten (despite pointing out their absence when the meals arrived).

Despite the massive delay and manky food, I was still charged full price for this disastrous birthday outing. Recieving only a half hearted apology as I left.

I'm glad to see other people posting here have had better experiences, but I noticed several tables around me having exactly the same problems with service and food.

The experience was so insultingly bad that I actually wrote a letter of complaint to the manager (something I've never before felt moved to do).

Naturally, given the level of service offered at The Crown, I never received a reply.

I am replying to this review as the Manager of The Crown Restaurant in Thames Ditton. In all the time I have been Manager none of our customers have ever waited two hours for food – who would, except a fool. I am guessing this is a vindictive review as roast lamb has not been on our menu since April 2010 when we were serving Salt Marsh Lamb. The review starts with an empty restaurant yet goes to say that several tables around her was also complaining, how odd. I I had waited for two hours for food in any establishment then I would do one of many things – firstly I’d walk if that was no an option I’d certainly not pay particularly if the food was inedible. With regard to the alleged letter being sent I can categorically advise that I have not received anything from any disgruntled customers in 2010. If the letter has been sent, and I’m convinced it was never posted, then I invite the reviewer to send me a copy of it via View London I would urge this to be immediate i.e. within the next seven days. If its not then I request that the review is removed forthwith failure to do so at that point will force us to instruct our company solicitor.

I am asking View London to request a copy of the alleged posted letter as they have a duty of care to the all restaurants, pubs, etc who’s business are virtually at a strangle hold by vindictive and quite nasty individuals mostly ex members of staff or badly run opposition.

I await your immediate response

Dear Manager of The Crown,

First I'd like to apologise for any offence caused by my review. Secondly I'd like to assure you that it was not intended as vindictive, and instead as an entirely honest account of my experience at your pub.

I can assure you events did take place as described, on Sunday 25th of July. We ordered three roast lamb (which were certainly on the menu), and one roast beef. Regarding the question of the pub being empty, I did say 'nearly' empty. As I recall, one table inside was occupied, and three on the outside gravel area (it was a nice day) including ours.

Perhaps I was a fool to wait two hours for food, but as I was with my parents (who don't eat out often), and as it was my mothers birthday, I did not want to cause unnecessary drama. Also, as we had ordered starters (which arrived before the crazy wait), we couldn't just up and walk out.

The same goes for paying. I certainly didn't expect to be charged the full amount, but when presented with the bill, I was hardly going to get into a stand-up row with your staff and spoil the birthday further.

I will send you another copy of my original letter tomorrow, and will happily send one to viewlondon if they feel this necessary.

It’s nice to see the crown getting the recognition it deserves. I see the new manager there is an actor from Eastenders. I went in there recently and it was like a scene from soap he seems to have all of his famous friends visiting. I think the crown may be turning into the new celebrity hang out. Keep your eyes peeled guys.

My Family and I went to the crown last week and I have to say the service was impeccable, polite helpful waiters and all staff very courteous.

The food was first class and the service was prompt too. I would recommend this to everyone.

Can only assume as has been said that the bad review is someone out for a freebie or with some sort of grudge because I went to the Crown yesterday and that review couldn't be further from the truth.

I am extremely critical but i couldn't fault the food at all. Sensibly priced, well prepared and extremely tasty.

We also had the fish pie and a roast, both couldn't have been better.

Friendly service and a sensible bill. Good local eatery, we'll be back.

I took my wife to the crown for our 10th Wedding Anniversary and I have to say that it was superb. We were shown to our table upon arrival and served well. The waiting staff were very attentive and pleasant. To top it all the food was delicious. Five stars to the crown.

Fabulous place to eat. I live in Thames Ditton and had never eaten at the crown before. I had lobster which was amazing and my partner had pork belly which he enjoyed alot. Orginally we only went in for a drink but after a nice chat with the friendly staff we decided to eat.

I had dinner with friends at the crown earlier this week. My friends and I all agreed that the food, décor and service were brilliantly received and what a quaint and stylish restaurant it is.
I was very pleased with the service in which we were given with great care and attention. Most of our party had fish pie which I would recommend to anybody that plans to eat at the crown with a great menu to choose from. I was delighted with my visit and would recommend to everyone

What a laugh - we were in the Crown the same time as the previous people, actually we were sat at a near table. It’s a classic case of ''give us a free meal'' as I recall they were a bit loud and seemed to be a wee bit drunk. We have been going to the Crown for several months and at no time has the service or food be bad in fact the service is so friendly you feel like asking the staff to sit with you for a drink. Funnily enough the head waiter – Oli Blanc would be bemused if not horrified as he trained with his father the wonderful and brilliant chef Raymond Blanc and we have been totally charmed by him on every visit. The food has gone under a lot of change and that has only been for the better. The freshest seafood we've (and bear in mind we had a party here for 16 people and they would all agree) eaten and the meat is supplied by Bentleys of Surrey (our own butchers) in actual fact ALL the ingredients and its source is flagged up on the menu and if you know your meat then you'll know you’re eating first rate produce. I think the real origins of the complaint – apart from the free meal - was the wait which can be long but very well worth it but then myself and partner have a lot to talk about so we didn’t really feel waiting to be a problem. What we do find unfair are lies about the quality of the food and the charming and lovely staff who I know will be hurt by such comments particularly when they are untruths and total rubbish. As a local we must and do support the Crown and all our local shops, pubs and restaurants. By the way, if I were the last reviewer I’d be more worried about my spelling and use of the English language.

Oh dear, change of management again, now the Crown is serving inedible food, by inexperienced staff, overseen by a surly manager, and the wine wasn't up to much either.
We really wanted to give it a go but things started to go wrong when we were told there was no crab for either starter or main course and that there were no mushrooms (for the mushroom ragu) they would be replaced by grilled tomato shared 2 starters and should have left then, the squid was tasteless but tender, the stuffed courgette was alright, limp lettuce accompaniment For main course we had half a lobster which was good but no implements to eat it with or clean ones hands after, with linguine which were al dente but had so much chili in them completely ruined the dish, the belly pork was reasonably tasty but quite hard work and the crackling inedible, the potato dauphinoise was good but the green beans were raw. The rib eye steak was alright the sumo chips ill conceived - fat greasy and reminiscent of school roast potatoes. worst by far was the 'Elizabeth David' styled fishpie an inedible overcooked sloppy mess topped by boiled cheese served in a tin rendering it too hot too eat. We couldn't face desert, and, having already expressed dissatisfaction over the pie we were rather surprised to see it still listed on the bill and the waiter suggested we still had to pay because "they had not had any other complaints" - instead of making an attempt to appease us, the manager when summoned tried to suggest it was us, the customer who was wrong, and only reluctantly removed it. All this with having had to wait at least an hour for food service to begin with, at close to highstreet restaurant prices, with cheerful but mainly indifferent service - they were by no means full, but there was an air of desperation surrounding the service suggesting amatuers with pretentions beyond ability. A real shame and the sour ending simply prompting us to write this review.

The crown has re opened with a very nice and stylish interior. good Italian food priced properly. We had dinner there on Saturday night and it was all excellent ( took a takeaway pizza for my son and he really loved it - high praise from a hardned 15 year old) with really lovely staff who were so attentive. as a local family we can only thank God the tribe that were there before have gone and our local has returned to normal. Well done everyone at the Crown.
