Nice pub for a drink, great couches etc but food was very overpriced and wasn't all that tasty.

I have lived in Balham for 2 years and would say that the Devonshire is is the best pub in Balham. Great combination of old pub style with modern feel. Don't know the managers not sure about the negative comments on that front. Lovely beer garden and always had great food here. Highly recommended.

Recently went to the Devonshire in Balham with my boyfriend and a couple of friends, and I'm sad to say we were incredibly disappointed -
we were expecting great things after reading the reviews on this site.

The food was uninspiring and overpriced and the whole place was lacking in atmosphere - it's definitely style over substance in terms of the new layout and decor. Shame.

The lowest point was the attitude of the manager who served me at the bar though - he was smug, unpleasant and sarcastic, not exactly the welcoming attitude you'd expect. We won't be going back.

went there on sat for drinks and dinner with my husband. we went the previous evening for a drink just to see what it's like as we just normally pass it when going to balham from clapham. we were so impressed with the whole place!!! we were excited we decided to go there for dinner the following evening. food are a bit pricey but so does food in clapham and surrounding areas! staff were really nice esp the head waiter i think. he moves fast and with no messing about attitude. the place was very deceiving indeed. we will certainly be going back although we think we over paid the bill by mistake with no 1 pointing it out to us, we certainly will go back and might have it as our 'local'. over paying the bill might have been our fault but never mind, we can't accuse any1 tho. we'll jsut have to be more careful next time.....nice ambience too

The Duke of Devonshire has a lovely beer garden on a hot summer's day, just make sure to check all the mint leaves in your jug of Pimms as they might have insect eggs attached to them...! When pointing this out to the manager the only response I got was 'they're dead love, we zapped them in the microwave, you're not getting a free jug'. However, after spending over £100 there in an afternoon my health was of more concern then a freebie.
The Duke of Devonshire has lovely staff, not so sure about the rude manager though!
