The ViewLondon Review
Wimbledon Village holds more than its fair share of picturesque pubs and quaint drinking holes; however, the Dog and Fox leads the way with its excellent beer selection and attractive outdoor seating area. The VenueAn imposing pub with a large outdoor area surrounding both sides of the building, the Dog and Fox can be found in the heart of Wimbledon Village. Attractively furnished and decorated with an eclectic mix of feature lighting and stunning mirrors, there is plenty to look at and, wherever you turn, and you will notice candles and object d’art dotted around in strategic places. In this vast building there isn’t a shortage of seating with plenty of comfortable leather chairs to park your behind in the bar or sophisticated dining area.
The AtmosphereWith a strict over 21 policy, this is not a place for teenyboppers; the clientele is generally aged twentyfive-plus, although the Dog and Fox does welcome families and caters for children. The outdoor area is an attractive space that covers both sides of a corner plot; again there is no shortage of seating with plenty of tables and chairs for alfresco drinking or dining.
The FoodThe food at the Dog and Fox is pub grub with a contemporary twist. There is an excellent selection of fish, meat and vegetarian dishes. Sharers cost from £4.50, starters £4.95 and mains from £9.45 for a butternut squash linguini as an appetising veggie option with desserts priced from £3.95 for homemade ice cream - why not try Guinness flavour? During the Wimbledon tennis tournament you can enjoy a hog roast and barbecue.
The DrinkThere’s a good range of beers and lagers on draft: Heineken, Peroni, Fosters and Kronenbourg, with Youngs, Wells Bombardier, Guinness and Addlestone cider also available on tap. Included on the drinks menu are Beer Tasting Notes outlining each brand to help you make your choice.
There is plenty of wine also on offer with some more unusual ones that are not readily available elsewhere. Prices start at £17 for a bottle of house Rioja ranging in price up to £47 for a bottle of Chianti Classico 2004. Champagne and fizzy wine cost from £23.25 for a bottle of Prosecco to £135 for Krug Grande Cuvee Brut NV. There is also the normal selection of spirits, including some premiums, as well as a good choice of shots.
The Last WordIf you want to pose at the best spot in this cosmopolitan village the Dog and Fox is an ideal place with great food, beautiful decor and an ideal outside space it’s a good choice for couples, groups or families.
