STEER CLEAR OF THE DOGGETTS! We booked a table a month in advance for twelve of us to celebrate my sister’s birthday with Sunday lunch. After ordering our food, the waiter told us that because there was a party of 50 in the upstairs restaurant, we would have to wait for about 50 minutes for our starters! We did question why they had taken our booking if they thought they would not be able to cope. Although the waiter was apologetic, no offer of free drinks was made for while we were waiting, or even any bread brought over. As we sat starving, the waiter said he was going into the kitchen to make the starters himself! They eventually arrived and were fine. Then we sat again for ages, with our empty plates still in front of us, watching as other people around us sent back their meals for being cold – it didn’t bode well. Sure enough, our mains arrived and were all – that is 12 meals – cold, in some cases uncooked, and largely inedible. A few of us struggled through the cold food (we had been in this restaurant for around two hours by now and were hungry!) while the rest asked for completely different meals – the worry of food poisoning from the slightly warm chicken meals was an issue. Even a request for some bread was met with surprise by the waiter. Meanwhile, the food that we had sent back sat stacked up on another table at the end of the restaurant – lovely! Eventually, we called for the manager and she agreed that our whole experience had been unacceptable and knocked the mains off our bill. But the experience left us with a nasty taste in more ways than one. This place is absolutely terrible and there is no excuse for this kind of service and standard of food. We couldn’t wait to leave. My recommendation? Do not go near the Doggetts Coat and Badge.

Rudest service I have EVER HAD. Ordered food at the bar and paid by card, the card machine asked if i wanted to leave a service charge. I chose not too as the food was overpriced anyway and we hadn't in fact received any service apart from the waiter punching our order into the till. After I handed the card machine back to the waiter and he saw I had left no tip he said sarcastically, 'Thanks a lot for all your help, thanks'. Could not believe it. Tips are a privilege not a right, and he had done nothing to deserve one. Would never return to this place, no river view is worth that sort of service.

DO NOT EAT HERE! Well priced food served an hour after ordering in a semi-quiet pub. Had to send 4 meals back as they lacked what was stated on the menu. Management was ambivalent at best and uncaring at worst. This is the worst run pub I have been to in the whole of England! However, there was a wonderful bartender who fixed a number of errors (none made by him) and he deserves the role of his clearly incompetent superiors. Enter at own risk.

Just had a meal at this pub. My first two choices were not available and once my third option had arrived - the portion was small, the presentation lazy and the quality was very poor. The service was clumsy at best, hostile at worst. I'm sure that at different times the experience would have been world's apart but It would have to be a very high recommendation from a trusted source that would have me visit again.

Avoid at all costs! On the second floor, where the dining room is, we actually saw mice wandering around! When we told the waiter, he said that they were actually aware of that, and it was due to the fact that the pub is next to the river! Simply unacceptable! In addition, the waiter in the dinning area on the second floor was extremely rude; we encountered him on Tuesday, 21st of October 2010 when we visited, between 8:30 - 9:30pm. He actually demanded that we tipped him, otherwise we should have eaten downstairs. He treated us mostly inappropriate, in my opinion he needs professional help with his issues. In conclusion, visiting The Doggetts Coat and Badge can be a very disappointing experience, apart from the river view.

Visited this pub while walking the Dick Whittington Ale Trail with a group of 13. I typically take a picture of the bar area of eat pub and of my friends as we enjoy the atmosphere of the great and historic London pubs. When I took a picture of the bar area, one of the male bartenders flipped out and said I needed to ask permission to take pictures. He said it was a "privacy" issue, even though I haven't had any problems at other Nicholson's pubs I've been to. Even after I apologized, he threatened to have the police that were in there kick me out. Incredibly rude bartender who definitely would never talk to anyone like that outside the protection of the pub with two police officers inside. Of course those officers may have been in there because of his consistent rudeness with other customers. Perhaps he needs protection so he can continue to treat customers with disrespect. I'll never go back to this lousy pub.

I am not the type to complain however just wanted other to know about our bad experience

Absolutely ATROCIOUS! Waited 1 1/2 hrs. for the food and even then 1 (of 3) meal didn't arrive - left without even getting it, but then again perhaps it was better, seeing the food was rubbish and so was the staff, who were unfriendly, arrogant and incompetent!!

My friends and I went here on New Years 08-09 from the recommendation from this site which states that it has excellent views of the fireworks. However if you want to see the fireworks at midnight you would have to leave the pub and cross the river as from the pub all you can see are reflections in the water....
Food very very poor.
Drinks ok, very well priced for central london at a double at £3.50!
Would return but not for New Years.

We went to the Doggetts on New Year's Eve!!! it was great, had a fabulous pie meal, ( I had the Chicken and Red onion which was delicious!!) the service was excellent, and very quick, the atmosphere was, as you can imagine, exciting, and the music was a really good mix of old and new singalong. I would thoroughly recommend it!!!

TOP NOTCH!
DELICIOUS PIES
LOVELY MULLED CIDER IN WINTER MONTHS
GREAT VIEWS OF SOUTH BANK AND THAMES

Recommend the pies, especially the Chicken with Leek and cider glazed ham, ask for gravy with this pie. All pies served with fresh veg.

4 of us went there in our lunch hour. The food came so slowly, and not all together than one of us didn't have time to eat it. Was given a refund in the rudest possible manor by totally disrespectful waiting staff. Food when it arrived for the others was average and over priced. Won't be going back when there are so many other decent places near by with a bit of respect for their cutomers.

The Doggets Coat and Badge looks bad from the outside but is great on the inside. The cider and black is fab and so is the beer. The Doggets Coat has a fantastic outside area. They have excellent riverside seating and of course the famous Doggets BBQ - yum!!
