I have only just discovered this pub and would definately return! The Dove is cosy, gorgeous, great for a first date or a chill out drink, staff were very friendly & accomodating and I loved just sitting back on the sofa looking out onto the Thames. Best to go during the week though as I can imagine how packed it would get on the weekend!
A great country style pub to escape the constant buzz of London...
My wife and I had the worse experience at the Dove. We complained to Fuller but despite their claim of excellent customer service they seem to disregard a real problem with the management of this pub. A shame because this could be a great pub thanks to its history and location. But very poor and chaotic service indeed.
Waited 40 mins for our drinks to arrive after asking the waitress to check on them more than once. Waitress obvioulsy not happy in her job - threw her eyes to heaven when we dared ask for salt and pepper. Great food and location and very busy, pity about the staff
I have never ever met a ruder man than the manager of the Dove. I live on the river and my family and friends have been going for years and I have only recently had the misfortune of coming across this man (grey hair, earring??).
It was a busy Sunday lunchtime and we did not mind waiting 45 mins for the food to arrive. But before we had even sat at a table the manager was pushing us aside and treating us like dirt - we were very unwelcome and he seemed furious that we dare ask for a roast on a Sunday.
The rest of the staff were lovely and were also being treated like crap by this manager. The food arrived and I was given the dryest most cardboard-like beef I have ever had. My friend had an extremely fatty pork. When we complained the manager did an over-exaggerated sigh and said the other customers had raved about it... (well actually the terrible food was the talk of the pub so I can assure you there were no rave reviews that Sunday). In addition for the overpriced £13 lunch (approx) we were only allowed half a yorkshire pudding each!!
I have never come across such a rude man in all my life, I wouldn't expect that level of rudeness from a drunk tramp.
I am complaining to all and sundry as it is an absolute travesty that such a beautiful old pub could fall into such dreadful hands.
lovely bar, friendly staff, great food. a little busy at times and the toilets could do with being dragged into the 21st century but not sure how they could do this without killing the great ambience this place has. well worth a visit.
The dove is a great pub, however it is a victim of its own success; I tried to go there last weekend (it was very sunny) and could hardly fit in through the door, let alone find a seat.
I would still recommend it when less crowded- but for a sunny weekend, unless you get there very early, try the Blue Anchor instead (it is right on the river side so plenty of space to lean on the wall and watch the water).
It's a gorgeous location. The food was OK, though we had to ask three times for some dressing for the salad. I wouldn't go back because of the state of the loos: no plug, no paper, no way to dry your hands, no light, all rather unsavoury.
The Dove is an oldy worldy pub with good atmosphere but don't go there to eat. Service took 40mins. My partner had a steak and ale pie which had more of a shortcrust pastry than nice light fluffy puff pastry and the gravy was more like water
I had a grilled salmon salad. It was in fact a plate of salad with a few flakes of salmon. I would bet that there was perhaps less than 100g. They were expensive for what we got. The Dove is an absolute rip-off.
