Unfortunately - the Drift Bar is very much a case of style over content. It looks great, is spacious and has been well decorated. However the food is overpriced, poor quality and comes with slow service. There has been more thought into the presentation of the food (meals are served on bread boards - not plates) rather than the quality of the food itself.
A great place for drinks (if you don’t mind paying £5 for a pint), there’s a lively buzz and its quite a unique and modern setting, but if you’re looking for somewhere good to eat – I’d go to one of the restaurants close by and head to the Drift for drinks after.

Most shocking service I have experienced EVER!

Half full at lunch time, yet took ages to take our order, then we had to ask a further 3 times for the rest of our groups drinks which didn't turn up. Staff not bothered at all and didn't make any effort to rush and had the cheek to put service on our bill which we soon got taken off. Food very average and as for the Cowboy Fries at £4 plus, they were just chips with tomato sauce on! That's the first and last time I'll be going there....

I've not had dinner here, so can not comment on the below posts, however I met a client here for drinks last week. Great location, good music and clean environment. Wide selection of cocktails, wines and beers. Large canape portions. Bar service was as you would expect for a place in this location, busy but the staff were consistently speedy. Without a doubt, I will be back.

Went to the Drift for a few drinks and snacks after work two weeks ago and have to say that it was a fantastic night. The place was busy, but luckily our booking ensured we had some seats and standing area. The bar staff were polite, and despite it being busy they managed to serve us quickly. The snacks had large servings and was tasty too. Ive been to the Folly and it is very much the same, love the Folly too.

We've been going to the Drift Bar since it opened and its just got worse as time has gone on and you'd think they would have ironed out all the kinks. Service is fantastic on arrival sometimes a bit OTT, there is no space given to your dining companian to catch up or even read the menu. however once we have ordered we have found it a nightmare to order any other drinks, dessert or even get the bill - these are things that are simple and ensure we would come back. The chopping boards to me are not something I would serve food on, can they guarantee that they have been cleaned and meat has not been put on something with veggies etc to ensure food poisoning does not happen. We ordered mussels as a starter and they arrived with the lips still on them - this is the main cause for food poisoning and a simple thing any chef should know! When we questioned the waiter he shrugged his shoulders, wasn't really interested until we refused to pay for them! It does beg the questions what else does the chef not know or do that is food and health standard! Probably not eat here again, good place for your first drink before heading out or a meeting point but not somewhere to perch for the evening followed by food, there are plenty of other places that are much better quailty and service.

Not linked to the restaurant but was thinking about going there so reading reviews.

By mussel lips do you mean the byssus or beard? The part of the mussel that connects it to rocks in the sea? This is often removed for aesthetic reasons but equally can be left on as it improves the flavour of any sauce the mussel is cooked in. It is not the main cause of food poisoning, the main cause of food poisoning is eating mussels that died before they were cooked (the ones that are open before cooking or the ones that fail to open when cooked).

Bad service should be rightly punished and uninterested waiters shouldn't be tipped but beards on mussels are not a health hazard.

Having had a couple of nice meals at Drift's sister restaurants we decided to give Drift a go for dinner and drinks, Wednesday evening. I was nothing but utterly disappointed. There service was awful (the restaurant was not busy), at one stage we had wait so long for our drinks, we left our table and went to the bar to get them ourselves. It was apparent that as soon as our mains were served the waiting staff "clocked off" and couldn't of cared less about the pleasure of the rest of our meal...... On top of this, of the 8 mains we ordered, 4 were below average- the crab and crayfish linguine was crayfish linguine tasting of nothing but red hot chilies, the club sandwich had chicken grilled to a crisp, the crab salad was some sort of "build your own" mixture of a few lettuce leaves, and the "special" tuna was far from special. Poor service, and 50% of the food was poor. The only thing this has going for it is it's atmosphere and sharing plates as starters- maybe moving forward it should be treated as a drinks and nibbles kind of place, it is definitely not a dinning establishment. such a shame!
