The location of the dukes head is great. I like the way that it has been refurbished so i was so dissapointed when I went in thier yesterday with 4 friends and opted for the Sunday Lunch with all the trimmings..... it was dreadful. It was drenched with what looked and tasted like tomato soup - certainly not gravey, the parsnips were boiled and the roast potatoes tasted like they had been deep fried. Good pub over all but don't order the roast!

The location is just perfect. Right on the river and lit up like Christmas it is really romantic in the evening. The interior is well decorated. The wood gives it the ye olde look but it is done in such a way as to feel modern and up to date.

For a Wednesday night it was packed out with a really buzzy atmosphere. We were served immediately at the bar but the concept of starting a tab seemed a little beyond the bar staff. They took ages sorting the tab out before getting us our drinks which was a little irritating.

As there were no free tables we squeezed in with another couple to have our drinks. I had to track down a waitress to ask for a table and we were told 15 mins for a table. It was closer to half an hour in the end but that was okay as we were not in a rush. Our waitress Amy was brilliant. Really smiley and chatty and very helpful. She recommended the salmon fillet with creamy dill sauce from the specials board and the Young's Beer Battered fish and chips. Both were bloomin' marvellous! We had the bread and olive board to share to start with which was a little massive. It would have been better if they did one for 2 as opposed to the huge generic size. We couldn't fit in a pudding as we were so full!

I went to The Dukes Head the other night and had a splendid night. Friendly staff and reasonably priced drinks. Exactly what you need after a long day in a hot non airconditioned office. I will be going back.

The Duke's Head's a bit of a gastro pub so if you're into that sort of thing it should suit you down to the ground. I don't mind it but to be honest I prefer simple, traditional grub.

It's not the cheapest place around but you could do worse than The Duke's Head.
