Lots of beer, lots of events, lots of fun. The Eagle Ale House ticks all the boxes.

The Venue
The Eagle Ale House is an undeniably pretty pub. The exterior is set back from the pavement, allowing for a pleasant seating area to the front, with a neat hedge and lots of foliage framing the pretty black and white building. Inside, it’s traditional and cosy with a bold red colourscheme, lots of ornate mirrors, pictures hanging on the walls and an eclectic array of furniture reminiscent of grandma’s living room – were grandma a cool interior designer. The leather sofas and armchairs are as comfortable as they are decorative and there are arching bookcases giving a library-like appeal. The bar is large and able to cope with the crowds that attend when they host regular events, or during the summer months when the large beer garden out back pulls in the crowds with its sofas and stainless steel tables creating an almost upmarket appeal to the space. Nicely done.

The Atmosphere
The Eagle Ale House has a laid back atmosphere that deals with the busy periods with ease, never seeming overly hectic or stressed. Instead, you can while away an entire afternoon and evening and barely notice the time passing – other than by the accumulation of pint glasses creeping its way over the table. In the summer, the outdoor areas quickly fill to bursting point with excited Londoners enjoying the rare glimpses of the sun. And in the winter, the cosy living room style of the interior is warming. The staff are very friendly and have a genuine banter with the locals and regulars whilst welcoming new faces with smiles. Where they really come into their own here, however, are with the regular events. Beer festivals, live music nights, fancy dress nights, barbecues, fundraisers and quiz events – they really make an effort to keep their punters entertained.

The Drink
The Eagle Ale House is certainly loyal to its name, having sported over 4,000 – yup, that’s 4,000 – rotating ales over the last seven years and during their beer festivals they can have up to 50 beers on offer at any one time. Some of their regular favourites include Sharp's Doom Bar, Ringwood Best Bitter, Westerham British Bulldog and Harveys Sussex Best. An example of the ales on tap in one week include Westerham Freedom Ale, Redemption Fellowship, Redemption Urban Dusk, St Austell Tribute, Downton Quadhop, Pilgim Progress, Oxfordshire Pride, Oxfordshire Triple B, Red Squirrel Red Tail and Red Squirrel Conservation. Phew!

The Last Word
The Eagle Ale House does exactly what it says on the tin – and so much more.
