Soho is a melting pot of different lifestyles and characters, and evergreen The Edge reflects its neighbourhood perfectly with four floors offering something for everyone.

The Venue
The Edge sits on Soho Square at the corner of Soho Street, which is just a couple of minutes' walk from Tottenham Court Road tube station. The bustling shoppers’ paradise of Oxford Street and gay mecca Old Compton Street are both within easy reach, too.

The tall building is easy to locate, and once inside you’ll find four different areas to entertain you. The ground floor is a good place to start the night as it gets busier, then you can move upstairs to one of two quieter seating areas, or head straight up to the top floor with its neon flashing dancefloor and stripper poles if you’re in the mood for a boogie. It might sound massive, but don’t be fooled – each of the four areas is pretty small, and becomes cramped on busy evenings with people unable to find seating at peak times. During warmer months, the crowd spills outside onto the pavement and into Soho Square to soak up the rays.

The Atmosphere
Having been on this site since 1991, The Edge is perennially popular with both gay men and their straight friends. You’ll find everyone here from university freshers discovering the gay scene for the first time to the media animals and eccentrics Soho is famed for, and the result is a cosmopolitan and social feel where conversations spark up easily and new friendships form rapidly. The bar staff are a friendly bunch, too, and provide plenty of eye candy to admire over your pint!

The Music
The Edge doesn’t play anything cutting edge or innovative, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing when the crowd is so diverse. Expect Britney, Kylie and Madonna - as is standard for most gay bars - as well as club classics, dance hits and chart tunes.

The Drink
Drinks at The Edge aren’t cheap, but with its prime position that’s hardly surprising. A pint comes in at nearly £4, and a large glass of wine or spirit and mixer is nudging a fiver. This is typical for the area though, and there are plenty of more expensive venues in the vicinity.

The Last Word
The Edge attracts a crowd because of a combination of prime positioning and catering to the masses. You could keep anyone happy in here, whether they want a quiet chat over a cocktail or to indulge in a spot of drunken disco dancing - and that’s the secret to why this place can still pack ‘em in!
