The Elbow Room is a fun venue to have a drink, dance or, as it says on the tin, make elbow room in amongst the sea of stylised American pool tables that make this place what it is.The VenueSituated on Chapel Market, a few minutes from Angel, The Elbow Room is an inviting venue with a purple and mahogany theme. Ten-plus pool tables to the sides of the seating and booth areas, a few widescreen TVs and, of course, the projector, make this an ideal spot for sports fans.
The AtmosphereThe Elbow Room has a great atmosphere, especially during big sporting events. Many of the internationals have themes and special drinks offers, as do Champion League games. There’s a weekly pool tournament that's less grit and more banter with a prize that includes a healthy tab at the bar. Anyone can watch as men, women and kids all get involved. The staff are extremely friendly and approachable with a decent table service available, privy to those deep in concentration playing pool.
The MusicFriday, Saturdays and Sundays are the club nights, with the latter being the tamer of the three. Entry is cheap at the £5 mark and is usually free on Sundays. Here you can enjoy a tempo-raising, eclectic mix of hip hop, funky and electro house.
The FoodBar food at The Elbow Room is full of various staples, including burgers and sandwiches that people may find pricey at £7. This is tricky territory as there are golden arches in the vicinity, but the burgers here are filling, well made and come with a decent side of chips and salad. Especially recommended is the steak burger. It's worth noting that when they're busy there may be a bit of a wait.
The DrinkThere is a standard drinks menu with bottles and draught available. Occasional offers can be found on certain beers, but the shot rack stands out. This is a line-up of shots such as tequila in the shape of a pool triangle, which holds six to ten shots per rack.
The Last WordThe Elbow Room is definitely the place to hang out for pool shark training, sports watching or, on a weekend, a decent club night where everyone is jovial and gets involved in the antics.
