I visited here a year and a half ago. I was very impressed with the service and food - you got what you paid for.
Recently I visited again and was disappointed to see that although they have kept the same decor, new management has taken over.
Expect Gastro pub food with a few poorly done special choice dishes.
What a shame.

Downmarket ambiance with upmarket prices.

I thought it had a down-market ambience with upmarket prices. Not my scene.

Yes, this is a an absolutely lovely place to visit. It's elegant, bright, and airy with an ever changing menu which is always delightful. Top marks.

My friend and I went to the Empress last week and was very impressed! The food was delicious and the wine suggested by the waitress was sublime! We ended staying until closing time, which we both regretted as we had togo to work the next morning... Higly recommended for the food, service and ambiance!!

Queen Victoria herself would have been impressed with the Empress of India - my young companion and I certainly were as we quaffed our port and lemon in the decadent setting of this sterling venue.

There’s a deliciously seductive ambience, augmented by fabulous decor and splendid service that is often forgotten these days. What more could a man want than a wonderful afternoon drinking in the Empress of India?
