The Erris Tavern is a cosy, genuine, Irish pub with Irish sports, Irish music and Irish punters, all combining to guarantee a lively night out.

The Venue
An integral part of the North Finchley pub crawl, The Erris Tavern is not your normal tavern. It’s a small and narrow little venue, with a rather unassuming front, almost blending in with the strip of shops it sits within opposite North Finchley’s most well known landmark – Tally Ho Corner. Rich red carpets and cream walls establish the traditional feel of the Erris, and Irishness is all around. Photos and paintings depicting Irish working life and landscapes all add to the history and atmosphere, as does the huge map of Ireland on one wall and the ledge containing an impressive array of Irish memorabilia and trinkets. Large ornate, gold framed mirrors add depth to this cosy venue, which was originally a shop, and frosted glass windows help it to maintain an air of mystery to the uninitiated.

The Atmosphere
The strong Irish contingent you are guaranteed to meet at any time of day in The Erris Tavern are also likely to be joined by other Finchley locals who like to spend their days drinking pints and putting the world to rights. If all this talk gets too much for you on an afternoon you can always muffle their mumblings with the jukebox, which is dominated by Irish singers, so you may end up with a combination of Daniel O’Donnell and U2, but you will also find Elvis and a few chart compilations. Live music on Sundays is always entertaining, and Irish hurling, Gaelic football and racing can be seen on one of three flat screens, despite the pub only being 50ft long.

The Drink
The small bar serves the standard draught beers – Carling, London Pride, and Guinness, of course, and there is a small selection of bottled beers and alcopops. The back bar displays every liqueur you can think of, from Disarrono Amaretto to Absinthe to Aftershock, and huge bottles of Bells and Martell leave you in no doubt what The Erris Tavern is all about.

The Last Word
Don’t be intimidated by the Irishness of The Erris Tavern – that’s what gives it such a warm and welcoming atmosphere and a solid guarantee of entertainment on every visit.
