Exceptionally unfriendly staff who seemed to see it as their duty to make me and my friends feel unwelcome, choose anywhere else in Covent Garden!

If a bar staffed by a pack of pit bulls is what you're after, then you've come to the right place. Rude staff bark at you to take your order, then snatch away barely sipped drinks before chucking you out. A hostile, unfriendly atmosphere more like a prison canteen than a public house.

I thought this place had a really lovely atmosphere. Popped in for late drinks following a wedding reception and found the service excellent and the menu was very well priced and very varied. Look forward to returning to try out the food - will keep you posted !

I can't give 0 stars to that "place" because the way to rate don't allow that. It's the worts place I've been in my whole live.
They don't care about the complains and do nothing about them.
The food was tasteless and the staff extremely rude.
I will never come back for sure.

Had a wonderful lunch in this pub last week. The place looked a little drab and we were the only ones in the restaurant but we were very pleasantly surprised by the service and quality of food. I would suggest people venture upstairs to enjoy the food.

An ideal meeting place in the heart of Covent Garden, particulary if you're not impressed with top-end cocktail bars and poncy restaurants. The Essex Serpent is a traditional English pub with a charming restaurant on the top floor and 2 bars below that attract a friendly drinking crowd. The staff are all well trained and efficient which adds to the pleasure of this well-kept retreat.

Avoid during weekday afternoons if theres a bunch of horrendous lawyers visible on arrival!

Very close to the cobbled square in Covent Garden, this is a good place to dive into with a relaxing setting and good beer.
