The biggest surprise I found close to the hell hole which is Kings Cross station . Found it on my first visit to London as a tourist to see the Gauguin Exhibition (13-1 2011) , wet night , a great pint of beer (youngs) .... then thurs 16-2-2012 ( after landscape photography exhibition), a great pint , same welcoming atmosphere and great buzz of conversation . Must eat here sometime ! Keep it up.

I used to go to this pub, effectively as a regular, but fir the last time today. Inefficient and arrogant staff. It's happened too often, and will go to the Premier Inn opposite where the drinks are £1 cheaper and attentively and efficiently served.
The ambiance and atmosphere are ok, but the staff think they're doing you a favour. The bar can get rammed, and rather than observe and see who has been waiting, they just do what they want, and serve whoever is nearest. One time there were three staff on, and one took 10 mins to make a bloody Mary. Another decided it was his break, leaving one to serve at least 20 people.
Things came to a head tonight when I waited for the barmaid to make a Coffee for a customer whilst her colleague chatted to a customer. After 5 mins someone walked straight in the door, up to said barman and was instantly served. Clearly zero bar presence on my part, but not the point; when I complained, was essentially told to F off. A lady down the bar said it has become a disgrace, the disdaid with which customers are treated. There were two customers, two bar staff, and they still couldn't get it right.
Location is their advantage, but they cannot rely on it. When KX is refurbed, there will be no reason to go there.
Instant and pleasant service at the Premier Inn over the road. Will go there again.

I was really surprised to read the below review - I love the fellow! I work locally so spend a few evenings in there a week. I find the bar staff really nice (always remember my face and ask me how I am) even if they are rushed off their feet sometimes! Food is really good and I don't think anywhere else in the area really compares. I get the feeling Ms. Fortune just needs a lesson on respecting other people's dining experience...nothing worse than a large table of drunk people making too much noise when you are enjoying a nice meal.

Nice pub but what a pity about the staff. I went there for a birthday lunch where there was a big group of us. 3 of us arrived just on three but were informed the kitchen was now closed and we could only get starters, chips or the pie. All other diners were then served their large meals so it felt difficult. Around 4.30 we went to go outside and sit in the outside area but were told it was closed for a private party at 8.30! One of our party finally managed to talk someone around but the damage was done. We happily sat there for at least 2 hours before we then moved when asked but it felt like they were more worried about the private party that evening still a good few hours off than they were about the actual customers in the bar. To top it off we then went back inside were in due course we were turfed out of our tablefor a reservation which then did not show up in the next half an hour we were there. The final straw was when a snooty barman marched over and told us off for laughing too loud as the other diners were looking at us - they had kicked us off our table, upstairs was off limits for a private party where else could we go to finish our drinks! It's a pub for god's sake - people make noise! The sooner the staff realise that they are there to serve the customers they actually have rather than the mythical private party which I didn't actually see before I left. They also need to be less uptight so that guests are allowed to enjoy themselves and not feel they are an inconvienience to the staff. Feel we gave a large tip as part of meal that wasn't deserved and a lovely day out was sullied by the attitude of most of the staff.

Went to The Fellow while waiting to catch a train from Kings Cross and was very happy with the food and service. Very friendly waitress who recomended what options were delicious as well as fast (so we could catch our train!). I went with lamb (so tender!) and my partner had the goats cheese strudel which was very tasty. We didn't have time to stick around for dessert but wish we could have - the rhubarb & pear crumble looked divine!

Really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere! I would recommend the steak tartare to start and the hake as a main - soooooo good! A really nice place for a cosy, candle lit dinner.

I love this pub, stumbled in here before a gig at Scala last week. Downstairs was a touch formal so made our way upstairs to find a great little cocktail bar with garden roof terrace. Got chatting to a friendly barman - Mick I think and he served us some tasty concoctions when we weren't sure what to order. Lovely atmosphere in the garden with umbrellas up and heaters on. We left later than planned and almost missed our gig. Will def be going back for food soon.

Went to the Fellow a highly rated gastro pub in kings cross - verdict highly Overrated and as ever overpriced. Filthy toilet - the crap-house that is, appalling bloody Mary. And a main-course of lamb which could be described as many things but never as tender. Dull. Very dull. AAA never mind.

Not normally an big gastronomic area but The Fellow is a great addition, joining the ranks of Konstam and Acorn House in the vicinity.

Plus it is a mere stone's throw from the station on York Way. I tucked into an endive, pear and Cashel Blue salas to start whilst my partner had the seared pork fillet.

My main was a wonderful fillet of Hake with clams and a white wine butter sauce whilst my partner had a tasty looking sea trout.

We struggled to fit in a Raspberry and thyme creme brulee which was a brilliant if not slightly heavy end to a faboulous meal.

Service was efficient and you can't really fault 3 courses for just over £25 when the food is thhis good.

We didn't have time to scout out the cocktail bar and terrace on the 1st floor but we will be back on another occasion to make a full evening of it.

Really nice food, its just a shame their billing is a mess. When we came to pay the bill we understood there would be an 'optional' 12.5% bill. When the bill arrived it had increased to 13%. We asked the waiter if he could just round it down by £1 to make it a round figure still allowing a good 10% tip on the bill, but he advised his till would be out!! :-O V uncomfortable and totally unncessary situation.

right then...Working in Kings cross i can confirm that this sort of place was very much needed, Camino i love you but theres someone else now. so the Fellow , Its not 100 percent there but it almost is. Its the closest pub to the station i think and from the outside you can see it means business. The downstairs food offer is way above anthing in the area and very fairly priced. It has a changing menu and seems to by trying to do simple things well. Service is on the good side and the whole place looks downstairs like it has had some serious investment toilets as well. Upstairs theres a cocktail bar and brilliant secret garden and apparently a privte dining room. If i had to suggest an improvement it would be the music volume upstairs, the musics good but it goes up and down in volume alot, but if this is connected to the lock tavern as i have heard then i am sure it will be sorted for my next visit. Which will be very soon.

this is definatly a awesome venue..went last night and had an amazing meal.I ordered the steak tartare at 13 pounds. It was possibly the best ive ever had(being a chef myself am very critical).the service was friendly, not to in your face, just good real! people serving good food, london needs more places like this, one thing i hope is they tone down there diners only policy in the downstairs area, people generally want to eat where they are seated, and vice versa, perhaps a glitch that needs to be wroked out, notebly they do not serve chips as a main course, thank god, there is nothing worse than having a beautiful selection of main courses when your clientel insist on eating only chips..so props to you for having this policy!!!!great stuff!!i had the apple tart to finish and this is purely great fresh british cookery!!absolutly delicious!!5 stars for food5 stars for service5 stars for great pub atmospherei hope they can keep it up...xxx
