Great pub where the staff looked after us like old friends!
The Fox offers well looked after beers, a decent selection of wine and some tasty home cooked food which kept us in well into the night.
Don't come here expecting loud hellish music and shouty, pointy people, the atmospheres solely bustling conversation both over the bar and amongst the other tables.
After a couple of drinks we headed upstairs to a beautiful Victorian restaurant which was quieter than downstairs and offers table service. Thanks to Jo, our waitress who was prompt, friendly and attentive when required.
The menu is small but offered two or three tough choices, we enjoyed Jo's recommendation of home cured pork and a watermelon and mozzarella salad to start, which were fresh and appetising.
For mains my rib steak was tender and well seasoned. The hand cut chips were crispy and generous!! My partners Sole was well cooked and as requested they even removed the head and tails for her prior to its arrival.
With a decent bottle of wine and service we spent around £70 which for two courses each in terms of the quality and value for money seemed fair.
Fine dining its not; but a fine night out it certainly is!
Never had such bad service in my life.
Having booked this place beacuse of their varied menu (we had a few food allergies, veggies etc) we had a set menu of 3 choices starter, 3 choices main shoved in front of us and were told there was usually a full menu, but because of the private party downstairs the kitchen couldn't do that for us.
after waiting 2 hours for our cold starters to arrive, (we were the only people in the dining room) we had the manager come in with the plates and say, "yeah, sorry it's taken so long, but we have a private party going on downstairs and you were late getting here" (we were 10 minutes late, and had phoned ahead to tell them).
Thanks The Fox for ruining my friends birthday! All of you were rude and vile to a perfectly nice party of 11 people, who just wanted to eat their dinner. We didn't stick around for the main course to arrive we'd have been there till midnight.
I like The Fox Dining Room, but don't think it's all it's cracked up to be. Alright, they sell beer and the food's ok, but some people seem to think it's the best thing since sliced bread. I mean, come on, it may be called the Fox Dining Room, but when push comes to shove it's a pub that does food. Ok?
