The Fox Reformed is a local gem for more than just wine buffs and board game enthusiasts.

The Venue
The hundreds of corks stuffed into the window display leave first timers in no doubt as to the leanings of this pub-cum-bistro on Church Street in bohemian Stoke Newington. Small but perfectly formed, the narrow front room of The Fox Reformed leads into a cosy backroom and a petit walled garden to the rear. The intimate bar is decked out in reds with wooden tables and a lifetime’s memorabilia displayed on the walls to good effect.

The Atmosphere
The Fox Reformed is a home from home for eccentrics, wine enthusiasts and just about anyone with a little taste. The atmosphere is calm, cultured and comforting making it the perfect place for a date or a night out with close friends. The owners are much in evidence and they organise backgammon evenings, a book club and wine tastings giving this pub a personal touch often missing elsewhere.

The Food
The Fox Reformed was once briefly a French restaurant, but nowadays it pulls off the wine bar restaurant pastiche with accomplishment. The bistro menu is unfussy and delicious with plenty of choice and the moules frites are legendary.

The Drink
The Fox Reformed has a proper wine list chosen with care and offering real treats for the seasoned palate. However, if the wine selection is not your forte the house is excellent and advice is never far from hand. Unsurprisingly, there is also a good selection of malt whisky and a lovely bottled Paulaner wheat beer.

The Last Word
A large glass of house red, please.
