I and my two flatmates have lived in Stoke Newington for around five years, and this is consistently our favourite venue. It simply has the best atmosphere of everywhere we know round here: cosy, quiet enough to talk but with a hum of activity and people in the background, classy service, great ales, the feel of somewhere that is rooted in Stoke Newington as a special place. Yes the food is fairly expensive, and some more value options and vegetarian options would be appreciated, but it is also good (one flatmate swears by their sirloin steak as his favourite, the other their veggie sausages with mash, and I love their smoked haddock starter with chips, or mussels when they are in season) though the atmosphere is what gives it the real edge. We go regularly and always feel more the nourished for it. It is honestly a local gem and we are always proud to take our family and friends here when they visit, and furthermore, said family and friends always fall in love with the place.

I am one of the said flatmates in the above review, and to correct one point I would say the food is not expensive at all, but is actually excellently priced when compared with like-quality eateries. The food is of really excellent quality, no doubt about it, and as said the atmosphere is wonderful. A charming unique favourite place.

Today 10th april 2009 my boyfriend treated me to a meal here. It looks a lovely french bistro but apart from the looks the place it is just a low class highway at best.....To summarize:
Service: good people
Ambient: decent
Price: expensive
Food: the worst thing ever (mash and sausages....how hard is that?)
Kitchen: only capable of kebabs

Advice: go somewhere else....a very sorry food establishment..
