The ViewLondon Review
The Gable is a modern, elegant bar with a dash of quirky decor to entice Londoners to come in and enjoy wine, food, and style. The VenueSlip in off the streets of The City into a fun, sophisticated bar full of young professionals. The decor at The Gable may seem random: seats are chaotically matched with a few random leather sofas popping up here and there; modern and antique light fixtures hang side by side; and steel, tiles and wood combine to panel the walls. Yet somehow, it works well. The contrast of the unique features creates a contemporary, alternative twist, adding a bit of an edge to an otherwise ordinary wine bar.
The AtmosphereBusy city folk can either take their time here to relax and have a leisurely three course meal, or have a quick glass of wine before they have to rush back to work - the ambience caters for both. With slightly varying areas, such as a lounge area, dining hall and bar, each has its own pace and type of customer, which fits the bill well for the different clientele. However, at times the areas seem to merge, making the atmosphere confusing and odd. The cool jazz music puts most at ease though, which is lucky as the staff are rather bored and uncommunicative.
The DrinkThe wine list at The Gable is a little more extensive that your average bar, but not enough to warrant it a wine bar. There’s a good selection of wines including some affordable New World wines at £16-£25 - there’s a big enough range of grapes and areas to keep all tastes satisfied. The bare minimum of soft drinks, spirits and beers are also available for customers who don’t appreciate wine, but not enough to keep them coming back.
The Last WordThe Gable is a decent place to enjoy a glass of wine in a slightly eccentric environment, but has nothing remarkably unique to add a wow factor.
